Honey-Ginger Grilled Salmon

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2009
I wasn't too sure about this recipe at first, but it turned out great. I marinaded overnight. The fish was really yummy. I used a bit of dehydrated garlic slices to the marinade as well. I thought I had fresh garlic in the fridge, but was mistaken. I also think i want to use a bit less orange juice next time. On some bites, i could taste it more than usual. I served it with the Japanese-Style Green Beans, as suggested by someone here.

Spicy Garlic and Pepper Shrimp

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
This was an easy recipe to make. I'd suggest using more water in the first step to cook the cabbage. This will also give you more sauce. I think I like my cabbage to be a little more tender, next time i'll cook for more than 30 seconds as well. Reduce pepper flakes if you dont like too spicy. I'd also maybe add a bit of sugar to accentuate the taste. This was a decent meal, but it felt like something was missing.

Chunky Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
I have never made potato soup before. This was pretty easy. I had a can of chicken broth and it did not measure up to 1 1/2 cups. It came to a little over a cup, so i had to add water. But 1 1/2 cups of water was not enough to cover my potatoes, celery, carrots, and onions to simmer. So I had to add an additional cup and a half of water. To compensate, I had to use salt, so it wouldn't be bland. I added Thyme, garlic powder, parsley flakes, and a bit of cayenne pepper. The result was great. I loved it. Right before serving i used cheddar and some bacon bits. I would make again!

Pineapple Chicken Tenders

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
I used boneless chicken leg cut into cubes to serve as a bite sized hors-d'oeuvre for a party. I marinated the chicken overnight. The marinade tenderized the chicken nicely. Instead of grilling it, I just cooked it in a skillet. The sauce caramelized nicely on the chicken. I boiled the extra marinade until reduced to a thick sauce, which I served on the side. My boyfriend and I liked it. I'd make it again and serve it on rice.

Pesto Pasta with Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2008
I use spaghetti pasta instead of bowties. I also added yellow and green peppers and onions. I forgot the garlic and red pepper flakes, and omitted the oil. I added parmesan cheese. It was simple and decilious. I wasn't sure if my boyfriend would like it, but he did. It's such a quick meal to prepare after a long day at work and a big workout at the gym. I would make it again and again.

Bow Tie Pasta with Sausage and Sweet Peppers

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
First off, my boyfriend loves this. He even claims this to be his favorite dish of the moment. It's simple and fast and he loves the taste. He made it on a night I wasn't home for dinner. We made this together yesterday. I believe we used too much pasta, because I thought it was bland and couldn't figure out why he raved about it. We used spicy sausages and green peppers. I think I would have enjoyed it more with broccoli and maybe a bit of mozza. We didn't have any. So I added a bit of fresh dill. I love dill. In general, a good and simple recipe, but nothing spectacular.

Hong Kong Style Egg Tarts

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2008
We used prepared tart shells in the frozen section of the grocery store. we're just lazy. We used 8 eggs instead of 9 eggs for the filling. We also use 3/4 cups of sugar instead of the 2/3 cups of sugar asked in the recipe. The filling never browned, we took them out when the shells started browning. I think next time we'll use less eggs. When it's freshly warm from the oven, it's not very sweet...disappointing. But I put them in a fridge over night and warmed them in the microwave and it seemed sweet enough, but not too much. The fillings was a bit firmer than the ones i've had in Chinatown. Not the best egg tarts i've had and not at all close to Chinatown egg tarts.

Philly Steak Sandwich

Reviewed: May 9, 2008
My boyfriend likes this because it's so easy and fast to make. We didn't have thyme and marjoram, but it tastes great without it. Instead of using garlic powder and salt seperately, I use garlic salt. If you have a non-stick pan, no need to have oil. This is yummy. We make it pretty often.

Awesome Baked Sea Scallops

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2008
I made this with my boyfriend on a regular friday night. We wanted something quick and easy. This fit the bill. We used frozen sea scallops. They were a little pricy, but a meal of scallops would cost you double the price for one portion only. I thought the scallops were delicious. We used italian flavored bread crumbs, but I think i'll use less bread crumbs the next time I make it. This would make a good meal or apetizer if you're having guests.
