Ginger Scallops

I have this same recipe in my collection for many years now. First found it in a Better Homes and Garden cookbook that I bought off the discount rack. Loved it then, and still love it now. I use more onions and cook the scallops first to give them a nice sear. I re-add them to the sauce near the end to let the flavors blend.

Asian Coleslaw

Excellent! I make this often. Great with Sesame Seared Tuna. The only change I made was to exchange some of the vegetable oil for Toasted Sesame Oil. This really adds to the flavor.

Hawaiian Wedding Cake I

My mother had been making this cake for 30 years. Don't know where she got the recipe, but it is wonderful and sooo easy. I top it with cream cheese frosting and sprinkle it with coconut. yummy

Jewish Apple Cake I

I used a Bundt cake pan and baked it for 60 minutes. Cake was very moist but a little too sweet for my taste. Next time I will add more apples and dust them with a little less sugar.

Grandma's Sweet Slaw

a little too sweet for me, so I dressed it up with some sour cream, red wine vinegar and some celery seed. So I guess it's not the same recipe anymore? It still gave me a good "base" to work with.

Beef Tenderloin in Creamy Porcini Sauce

Very good, even with the few minor substitutions I made. I did not have the Porcini so I used button and I swapped out the water and the bouillon cube for beef broth. Would probably be better if I had the porcinis but it was still very good and I will probably make it again.

Thai Grilled Beef Salad

I thought this recipe was too salty. I made the recipe as written. I even had the kecap manis in my cabinet. There was no balance of flavors, just too much salt. If I make it again (maybe) I would decrease the fish sauce and increase the Kecap Manis. I would even add a little chili-garlic sauce for a little heat.

Fennel in Wine and Honey

I am giving the recipe 3 starts only because I was not particularly fond of it. My boyfriend enjoyed it over rice. I never ate fennel before and do not like licorice/anise so I am not surprised that I did not like it. Easy to make but just not my cup of tea.

Haddock Au Gratin

The fish was very good and perfectly cooked, but the sauce was missing something and I couldn't put my finger on it. I added some garlic and extra mustard but still a little bland. Maybe some tumeric or some cayenne pepper like others suggested.

We thought this was just OK. I did not have any ground beef, so I made it with all ground lamb. We love lamb, so we thought if would be ok. The spice blend was tasty, but not awesome.

Balsamic-Glazed Salmon Fillets

Not that impressed. We love the taste of good wild salmon but we thought that this galze covered the taste of the salmon instead on complimenting it. Maybe this would be good on something like Chicken Breasts, but not on King fillets. Will not make again.
