Amazing Pecan Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2014
This is a stellar coffee cake recipe. I made it last might to take to a meeting at work today, and am glad that there was a piece or two to bring home. I took the advice of several other reviewers and used a 9x9" pan for the cake and let it bake for 45 minutes, testing it after 35 minutes. I added 2 tbsp of flour to the topping mixture and reduced the pecans to 3/4 cup (and did mix the topping with my fingers). Since I only had 3/4 cup of sour cream, I increased the volume to 1 cup with 2% milk. The result was fabulous, there was no sinking in the middle as others have described, the top browned beautifully, and the cake's taste is superb (the 1 tbsp of vanilla adds a lovely flavour). Thanks for sharing the great recipe!

Flourless Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2014
I have made numerous flourless chocolate cake recipes, and this ranks amongst the best. I made a few modifications, but only because of the ingredients I had on hand. I used 12 oz of bittersweet chocolate, 4 oz of semisweet and 2 oz of unsweetened chocolate. I added 5 large eggs (it was what I had!). I used a 9-inch springform pan, didn't use the water bath, and baked the cake for the amount of time indicated. The cake was superb - it cut beautifully, was smooth and as many suggested I served it with a lightly sweetened whipped cream to balance the chocolate. I thought the preparation method was very unique - this is a definite keeper. Thanks for sharing Maggie.

Lime-Marinated Grilled Salmon

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2014
This was an easy-to-prepare salmon recipe. I made two modifications; I added 1 1/2 tsp of honey to the marinade, which helped the flavour and also with browning as I baked tithe salmon in the oven (with the spring we've been having, will we ever see barbecuing again ?).

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2014
I made this recipe just as directed, even though after reading reviews I had been prepared to make some adjustments, until one reviewer noted it was a great basic stew as is; She was correct. It is a tasty stew, makes lots and is easy to prepare in the morning before heading out to work. When I have more time in the morning I might try some of the other reviewers suggestions, including browning the stew beef, but I'd second the advice of others, try it as is first.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2013
I've had a bread machine for over 20 years, and have tried many recipes (both with the machine and without). This is a very interesting preparation, and I have made it a few times with very good results. I use canola oil, and find the bread turns out well regardless of the oil type used. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

This is delicious and the garlic flavour is an enhancement to traditional roasted squash. Thanks for the idea MChele.

Honey Dijon Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2013
A tasty and easy to prepare recipe. After reading some other reviews, I halved the amount of pepper. As well, while the pork was cooking, I dry roasted [in a frying pan] 1/4 cup of chopped pecans and sprinkled them over the chops before the pouring sauce. Great flavour and texture addition.

Shrimp Linguine

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2013
This is an easy to prepare and tasty recipe. I made as directed, except used 2% milk and thickened with flour (as another reviewer suggested). I added additional basil and thyme and had lots for leftovers the next day.

Beef Wellington

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2013
This is a stellar recipe, which a friend and I made for a reunion of a dinner club (we hadn't met for over 30 years!). The recipe is relatively easy to prepare if you watch the video a few times, read the allrecipe reviewers comments, and start with a quality tenderloin. We used a meat thermometer, cooked the Wellington on a rack in a pan, and did use the pate. The flavour was exceptional - the slices weren't the easiest to cut so I might let it stand a tad longer the next time, or make individual servings as others have suggested. From another site, a suggestion was made to put the uncooked but prepared Wellington in the fridge for a few hours, which we did - so the times given (needless to say) were off, but that's another reason why the meat thermometer was so helpful. A great recipe for a reunion dinner club - all the people in attendance raved!

Brown Sugar and Mustard Ham Glaze

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2013
This was an easy to prepare glaze for ham, and I did make a variation (as well as using Dijon mustard as other reviewers have suggested). I used a small ham and a larger baking dish, and after glazing, some of the glaze slid to the bottom of the dish and stood a good chance of burning. My Mom suggested adding some orange juice to the baking dish, which I did (enough to cover the bottom) and not only did it prevent burning but it made a delicious sauce for the ham! Next time, the oj is part of the recipe for me.

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2013
This is a fantastic recipe. I made almost as directed, and it made two tasty loves, one which I served sliced with a variety of cheeses, and the other with a pasta dinner. The only change I made was to brush the pre-baked loaves with milk instead of the egg yolk - this worked just fine.

Lemon Cranberry Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2012
I made this recipe for Christmas breakfast and the muffins were a hit! I made as directed, except took the advice of another reviewer and and used orange juice for the lemon. I also grated and added some orange peel (about 1 tsp) which added to the flavour. The timing to bake was about right, although it did make about 15 muffins. Thanks for the recipe.

Sunshine Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2012
An easy-to-prepare recipe, that is made with ingredients I had on hand. I made the recipe as indicated, only using fresh garlic (2 cloves) and I added onion powder and pepper as another reviewer suggested. This is a keeper for nights when quick and easy are the criteria.

Oven Fried Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2012
Delicious. I used this recipe for chicken legs, and removed the skin before dipping them in the garlic butter. Other than that, I followed the recipe, only I substituted panko crumbs for the dry bread crumbs, and used more parmesan than called for. Thanks for the recipe Judy/AZ. it's a keeper.

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2012
This is a delicious recipe - I had a family favourite years ago from a Canadian Living magazine that was similar (except you wrapped the flattened chicken around a cheddar cheese rectangle, this one is much simpler). I used panko crumbs for the bread crumbs, Italian seasoning for the oregano, and grated extra cheddar cheese, which I put over the chicken with about 10 minutes remaining. I also baked the chicken at 400 F (for the same time, but the chicken breasts were large), which crisped up the coating. Yummy!

Honey-Mustard Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2012
An easy-to-make and tasty chicken recipe, reminiscent of one I used to make years ago. I only had Dijon mustard with tarragon, so used that and added 1 tsp of curry (just to accommodate my husband's taste). A definite keeper. Thanks for the recipe, Kristen.

Garlic Broccoli Spears

I made this just as indicated and it was a tasty broccoli dish; next time I will cut back on the lemon juice and add more garlic as some other reviewers have suggested. Served it with Salmon with Brown Sugar Glaze (also from this site).

Michelle's Soft Sugar Cookies

What a great sugar cookie recipe. I used this dough to make 'Melted Snowmen cookies' which were a fun treat for the holidays. This dough easily presses to make the base for the cookie, and the taste of the cookie was awesome. http://www.crazydomestic.com/2010/12/melted-snowman-cookies.html

Orange Basil Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2011
This was an easy-to-prepare and tasty pork recipe. I followed the recipe as indicated, except I used fresh garlic. I found the sauce to be very tasty, and basted the pork with it frequently as it was cooking, so didn't find the pork itself to be bland at all. A definite keeper.
