About this Cook
I'm a 26 year old wife, mother, and custodial sister! In one year's time my lil family of 3 doubled in size! My father passed away in late '07 and I became legal guardian of my twin special needs half-brothers, now 16, and in April '08 my daughter was born! My son is 6 and a very picky eater. Everyone else, luckily, is pretty easy to please. I'm not a very good cook, and I'm trying to get used to cooking to feed the masses!
My favorite things to cook
Heh. My specialties are Manwich Sloppy Joe's, Classico Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Kraft Mac n Cheese! I'm looking to expand my horizons!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother raised my sister and I by herself and worked a LOT, so we ate a lot of boxed meals and baked potatos! She's the greatest mom ever, and she loves that I'm trying to learn to cook!

My cooking tragedies
I once bought frozen stuffed shells that totally didn't cook in the time they said they would. Took 3x longer! I even had my husband fish out the package and make sure I'm not a complete moron! I called the company to let them know. THEY thought I was a total moron. At least my hubby knows better... ;)

Black Bean Salsa
Made this tonight. Didn't stick exactly to the proportions, but kind of eyeballed it. I used 3 cans diced tomato instead of 2 cans and 2 fresh because we didn't have any nice ones at a reasonable price at my store. I also used the stalk and the bulb from the green onion. We're onion freaks. My husband literally cannot stop eating it. I made more than this recipe, and it's more than half gone with just the two of us. Love it! This will become an often used recipe at our house. Thanks!

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream
I must admit I was a little nervous with this one. My husband saw the recipe and said "Pasta with... CREAM???" It wasn't thickening after simmering with the half n half, so I added a lil flour and parmesan cheese. It wasn't pretty, but it was DELICIOUS!!! The whole family loved it! My second sucessful home cooked dinner this week! Yay! Thanks so much for this one. Everyone insisted it go into rotation!

Hamburger Gravy
I added Extra Spicy Mrs. Dash and lots n lots of pepper, and my family gobbled it up like crazy over mashed potatoes! My husband and I ate the leftovers over toast for lunch today. Thanks for a great base recipe that even those of us who can mess up Hamburger Helper can handle! :)
