My alterations: I use only 2/3 cups milk and let the breadcrumbs be absorbed by it before folding it in with the rest of the mixture. I omit the salt and use seasoned salt instead, and two teaspoons instead of one. I increase pepper to 1/2 teaspoon. I use 1 full pound of cheese. That's 4 cups shredded or 16 oz. cut into cubes.
My additions: 4 tablespoons worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons diced green chilis, 1 chopped onion, 1 teaspoon garlic powder or minced garlic, and occasionally I'll add shredded carrots, chopped spinach, and/or celery. (Always 1/2 cup of each veggie.)
