Pineapple-Cherry Nut Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
This recipe, unlike others on the site is really a tasty fruitcake-like treat. What is important in this recipe, though, is that the ingredients differ from a normal fruitcake. While I strongly dislike heavy fruitcake, a light and airy cake like this with some of the delicious fruit from the classic cake is a winner with me! Remember, if you plan to try this recipe, you will need to read the directions carefully. No matter how many fruitcakes you have baked, this cake needs to be treated like its own kind of treat!

Noel Fruitcake

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
I am not a huge fruitcake fan myself, but a close friend is and I gave this recipe to her. She insisted that I try some of the cake, and she raved abotu the exceptional taste and flavor. To me, the cake tasted the same as all the other fruitcakes I had encountered. I think that if you are really a fruitcake lover and are looking for a wonderful recipe, you've met your match. However, if you really don't like fruitcake, don't expect this recipe to work miracles. This cake is nothing special unless you especially love fruitcake.

English Christmas Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
Mmmmm, this is a delicious snack cake for the holiday season, but it also makes a great breakfast bread when company is over. However, I didn't choose to give this recipe a five star rating because of one small problem. In my opinion, this cake has an overload of spices. All of my family members commented on this being a rather strong cake. With mixed spice, cinnamon, and lemon zest, this cake is more than spicy. What I would recommend to others trying this recipe is to choose add the suggested amount of cinnamon and lemon zest, and leave out the mixed spice. With two spices, the mixed spice is fairly useless.

Crushed Pineapple Fruitcake

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
The pineapple is a completely new twist on the classic (heavy and in my opinion bland) fruitcake. This pineapple cake has a lighter flavor and is slightly less filing as well. The only part of the recipe I did not understand was the warning not to double the recipe. If done correctly, the cake does fine doubled, trippled, or even quadrupled! :) If you plan on baking for a crowd, don't turn down this recipe because of the false information. This cake tastes great no matter what!

Cherry Lattice Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
I have been looking for a specific cherry cake for a while and have been having no luck with it. Finally, I found this cake and decided to give it a try. Since it was not yet reviewed, I was a bit unsure of it, but gave the recipe a try anyway. After one bite, this cake had won me over. The cherry filling is just perfect in the center, and I love the cake itself, so elengant and tasty. Just remember that this cake has a tendency to burn easily. Also, don't take the easy way out and use cherry pie filling instead of doing the cherry filling yourself. A friend who also used this recipe complained of an ordinary and bland taste when she substituted canned filling for the fresh ingredients.

Coconut Lamb Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
I was lacking the lamb mold, as those are very hard to find, so I simply used the recipe to make a standard coconut cake. And let me tell you... the cake was absolutely perfect. I love coconut, so I have tasted many coconut cakes, but this one was really tops on my list. Many cakes have an overly sweet frosting, or tend to leave a sour aftertaste. This cake did neither... it was just a great, pleasing all around dessert. Now I just have to find a lamb mold...

Flavorful Herb Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
Oh my goodness, this bread is amazing! I was amazed at how easy and delicious this was. I was planning on making grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches and wanted to find some bread to spice them up. When I saw this recipie, I was sure this was going to be it! The recipie didn't dissapoint me. I used the bread on for my sandwiches and also added a little pesto to the grilled cheese. I'm planning on using this recipie a lot more. Don't shy away from herbal bread... the flavor will be perfect for adding spice to your sandwiches!

Danish Christmas Red Cabbage

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2008
I absolutely love this recipie for any day when I feel like using up some of that uneaten lettuce in the house. However, does it matter what color the cabbage is? I am growing my own garden, and have used a few green cabbage heads, znd the recipie tasted the same. I am unaware of any difference in taste between cabbages.

Very Moist Gumdrop Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2007
This was actully a very tasty cake, though the name led me to believe that I might not like it since I don't like gumdrops and the ingredients sounded like they would taste strange together. However, this cake was amazing! It tasted similar to my Christmas fruitcakes. All of the people who came for dinner and tried this cake said that they had never eaten anything like it, but liked it very much. The only thing I changed was the amount of gum drops. I would add a little less, but that is just my personal tastes. Also, watch the cake carefully in the oven since its edges brown very quickly! Thanks a bunch, Carol!

Ginger Lime Dip

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2007
I think a little less mayo would probably be good, but besides that, this is an excellent recipe. It goes really well over chicken too as a sauce, so I use it to make my Ginger Lime Chicken recipe, which is boneless chicken brests cooked, then covered in this sauce. Thank you so much for sharing!

Pineapple Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2007
AMAZING! I love these muffins so much and can't understand why other reviwers had such a hard time with these! The baking time is a little short, recommend a "Cook Time" of about 25 minutes, instead of 20. Besides that, these are wonderful low-fat muffins that I adore! The only things I can think of that threw people off were cook time and maybe the title, since it didn't say bran or raisin anywhere in it! (Another reviwer mentioned that too). Anyway, if you are going to bake these muffins, give it a try because the last thing you'll be is disapointed!

For-My-Love Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2007
I found these to be excellent cut-out cookies for a summer party- probably the best cutouts I've ever eaten. I frosted them with only vanilla glaze, not wanting to detract from their tasty buttery flavor. Next time I make them, I might consider mixing in some butterscotch chips, and drizzling with butterscotch sauce, which will be compatible with the butter flavor. Thank you for sharing! :)

Blue Cheese, Avocado, and Grape Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2007
Not everyone liked the salad because of the quite original flavors, but those of us who loved blue cheese liked this salad tremendously!! I'm a big blue cheese lover, so this was the perfect salad for me. In the future, I'm planning on making a few modifications for those of us who don't like blue cheese, such as: -Intead of blue cheese dressing, use Thousand Island Dressing. (A creamy kind.) and I plan to replace the cheese with crumbled feta. Also, for all the blue cheese lovers, I would recommend using crumbled blue cheese. Thanks for sharing! :)

Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2007
I made these cookies almost as written, except for one simple modifacation. I used crumbled Reeses Peanut Butter Cups in place of the peanut butter chips and decreased the amount of peanut butter to a 3\4 cup. These cookies make about 5 not 4 dozen and also are very thick. However, everyone liked them and I will be making this recipe (with my modifacations) again! Thank you! :) :)

Oatmeal Dried Fruit Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2007
I made these for Easter, and instead of using dried fruit, I used Jordan almonds from my local candy shoppe, which are almonds with pastel colored candy coatings. Also, I just made them last week with dried strawberries, white chocolate chips, and strawberry extract instead of the vanilla. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!

Chocolate-Cran-Oat Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2007
Very tasty! I used them to make a quite original ice cream sandwich with two of these cookies and cinnamon ice cream. I added 2 teaspoons of cinnamon to make the cookies more compatible with the ice cream but other then that, made the recipe as written. Thanks! ;)

Mint-Chip Ice Cream Roll

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2007
Tasty! I used the Easy Mint Chip ice cream recipe insted of using the store-bought type. I also added a little mit extract to the chocolate sauce, which enhanced the flavor. With the changes listed, this was a fantastic recipe, but I'm sure I would also be fine as written. Thank you! ;)

Easy Mint Chip Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2007
I really enjoyed this ice cream and thought it was rather easy. Mint Chip is my favorite ice cream flavor, and this tops all the recipes I've ever tried, store-bought, and homeade. I really liked the bar style which made serving portions easier. I also drizzled the bars with chocolate sauce 5 min. before serving time, which I think, gave the ice cream an extra kick! Anyone who tries this will treasure this recipe forever! Thanks! ;)

Fresh Pear Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2007
I haven't made this yet, but am planning on making it tonight for a dessert that my family will enjoy. My tips to other people who are attempting this recipe are: 1. A pie really can't have too much cinnamon, so you can add a little more then the recommended amount. 2. Using a butter substitute probably will make your dessert not as good, so forget the diet for a while! :) 3. You can really taste a difference when you use a homede crust. (Try Basic Flakey Pie Crust.) 4. Drizzle with a little vanilla glaze mixed with cinnamon for best results. (Found that out in past experience with pear pies- same goes for apple pies.) 5. Be sure to check the pie before the estimated "Cook Time is up so it won't burn. I hope I could help!

Raspberry Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2007
I have always been a lover of meringue pies and finally have found a recipe that tastes almost exactly like my grandmother's! This is a wondrful pie, just like the ones I grew up eating. Everyone who was served a slice of this pie came for seconds and even picky eaters loved it! I would very highly recommend this recipe! Thank you, Mrs. Anton Sohrwide!
