Berry Bread Pudding with Brown Sugar Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2009
This was my first attempt at bread pudding and it turned out amazing. I used a vanilla bean instead of extract. I scraped the inside of the bean and put it in the milk along with the vanilla pod and let it soak for a few hours. Removed the pod before making the egg mixture. I used all blackberries and it was great. Definitely, DEFINITELY make the brown sugar sauce, even just the littlest drizzle over the top makes the dessert even more amazing. I loved this so much I made it twice in one week.

Emily's Famous Marshmallows

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2009
The instructions in this recipe fails. This was my third time making marshmallows and wanted to try something different so I have this recipe a go. I ended up with chunks of sugar/gelatin. The instructions just aren't clear. When I add the gelatin to the heated sugar and I add it immediately to the egg whites? Do I wait for the eruption to die down? Do I stir the sugar/water/syrup mixture while waiting for it to come to temp or do I leave it alone? With some tweaking I think the results could be great but I'm not even going to bother and just try a different recipe.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
I made this to go along with the slow cooker bbq beef I made and my husband said that it was the best cornbread he's had. I did reduce the sugar a little and made my own buttermilk with skim milk and lemon juice. Thanks for the recipe, it will be added to our regular rotation for sure.

Thai Green Curry Chicken

Reviewed: May 13, 2008
I was afraid of making curry for the first time but everything turned out perfect. Only used 1 tbsp of curry because I dont like spicy things. While the garlic and curry were simmering I threw in some chopped carrots and sweet onion. I wanted a thicker sauce so in the end I added a little bit of corn starch. I had to make extra rice because I refused to throw away the leftovers.

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
Frosting turned out great, just a little too greasy for my taste but no one else seemed to mind. Will use again if in a pinch and need something quick and easy. I added more powdered sugar for piping and everything was a-ok.

French Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
This would be a great recipe for frosting soup. Not sure what went wrong, followed the recipe exactly. Maybe the microwave was for too long? I mixed for at least 20 minutes (constantly watching) until it started separating.

Ukrainian Sour Cream Poppy Seed Cake

Reviewed: May 12, 2008
Too many poppy seeds for my taste, others also commented on the excessive quantity. While I didn’t care much for the cake (seemed like giant muffin to me due to density) but others liked it. I’m a sucker for short cuts so for the filling I did 1 sm package of instant lemon pudding and 1 cup whipping cream, ¼ cup milk. I’ll probably try this again with less poppy seeds and maybe a little bit of lemon extract in the cake batter. I was short on time so I didnt soak the seeds, no one seemed to mind.

Sandy's Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: May 9, 2008
As a novice cake decorator I bring in a lot of cakes into work – about 1 per week. When I brought this chocolate cake in with a simple chocolate frosting I received rave reviews. After adding the boiling water the batter seems WAY too runny but magically it all works out. Based on how many people loved it, I think this will be my chocolate cake recipe forever.
