About this Cook
I grew up with a culturally diverse diet. My mom's Chinese, my dad from midwest Canada, and we lived mostly in the NW. I'm an army wife living on the Mexican border now with a hubby from NM, so our cuisine at home varies quite a bit.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking, although I try to hold myself back as I love eating it as well. Since moving to TX, I have also started experimenting a lot more with grilling and all the sides that go along with it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I like doing traditional Chinese food, but have also found myself enjoying cooking SW cuisine more and more. My hubby is obsessed with cheese and green chile in EVERYTHING, and I try to accomodate him when I can stand it.
My cooking triumphs
We have friends over several times a week, and the favorite by far is Chinese food. We also have people inviting themselves over whenever they find out I'm baking that day.
My cooking tragedies
I have, in the past, completely forgotten about food on the stove/in the oven only to remember when the smoke alarm goes off. There have been pots thrown away because the burnt on food is REALLY burnt on.

No Bake Deluxe Hamburger Cookies
These cookies are super cute, and a lot of fun to assemble. I had trouble finding the apricot fruit leather, and had to scour my store for any orange-colored fruit leather type substance, finally finding some mixed fruit fruit roll-ups and cutting out the orange sections. I did not use the gumdrops because I figured that on a real burger you rarely see the pickles from the side. I did add red and yellow icing "ketchup and mustard" to help hold the cookie together. I only gave it 4 stars though, because I didn't think they tasted great. It's kind of a strange combination of flavors, but they are SO adorable, and honestly, my kids didn't care what they tasted like!

Sopapilla Cheesecake Pie
I normally only make desserts from scratch, but DH loves sopapillas so I decided to give this a try. I did not alter anything and it turned out PERFECT. It was a little on the sweet side for me, but DH and kids loved it. Super easy recipe to put together. I'm keeping the ingredients on hand for the next time company drops by!
