Grandpa's Classic Coney Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
Made this tonight for dinner and it was really good. I didn't have time to let it slow cook but let it simmer on the stove while I steamed some turkey dogs. Cut the recipe in half and it still came out very good. Not too dry and not too soupy. Next time I will slow cook it and use the immersion blender to get it the right consistency. Really good recipe.

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
I had some reservations about making this, but I needed a recipe that would let me take care of my 4 year old and 6 month old who managed to get sick at the same time. This turned out much better than I expected. I can't rate the sauce, as I don't like making ketchup sauces for meat loaves, using honey chipotle barbecue sauce instead. The meat was juicy and had good flavor. I will definitely be making this again! UPDATE: Having made this quite a bit now, I do change a couple of things. I use 2 pounds of meat, and when I have it I do half beef and half venison or pork to have less fat. When I put it in the slow cooker, I leave it on high to get up to cooking temp faster, then low until it's done. I still don't make the sauce tho cause I prefer barbecue sauce.

Mommy's Sweet Carrot Milk

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
I really enjoyed this drink. I would rate it 5 stars except for that I had to cook the carrots longer than the recipe said to get them "blendable." Other than that, very good and easy. I did use soy milk so my 4 year old could have some and he really liked it. First time I have gotten him to voluntarily put carrot anything in his mouth!

Carrots and Rice

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
Like another reviewer, my husband and I found this "weird." Not bad weird though, but even while we were eating it, we weren't sure about this one. I did make minor changes to cut fat. I used milk and only about 6 T of butter... but I am just not sure we like this much sweet with our rice and veggies. We have both decided to try it again tomorrow (LOTS of leftovers) and decide if we want to make it again in the future.

Creamed Beans and Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2008
This was actually surpringly good. I made it because it was one of the first green bean recipes i could find that i had everything for in the pantry. My picky husband and our pickier 4 year old both liked it. I will be making this again. The sauce seems like it is going to be too bland, but it goes really well with the veggies. I used fresh grean beans and steamed them, and salted the water while boiling the potatoes. Very good side dish!

Honey Of An Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
This is probably the best bread recipe I have found at this site so far... Followed the recipe exactly, except for only using the dough setting on the bread machine. I put the dough in a loaf pan, let it rise, then baked at 350 for 30 minutes like someone else suggested. Fantastic taste and texture. I've made it twice already! Thank you for sharing.

Best Ever Pie Crust

Reviewed: May 23, 2007
I re-joined allrecipes to write a review of this crust... I don't know why everyone gives it so many stars. I lost my regular recipe and decided to try this one and it was terrible. Way too greasy to work with, even after refrigerating for hours. It kept tearing when I tried to move it no matter what I did with it. I finally just pressed it out in the bottom of the pie pan, threw the extra away, and found a different recipe for the top crust which worked better. Way way too much shortening to be workable, and adding extra flour while rolling it out didn't help. I will never use this recipe again. It nearly ruined what I was trying to make.
