This turned out great. I took some of the advice from the reviews and used half a cup of white sugar and a half a cup of brown sugar and added a Tbl.sp.of corn starch to the milk. It thinkened nicely, got thicker as it cooled. Easy. Thanks.

Pumpkin Cake II

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2007
This is a great cake. I did use the spice cake mix and only 1/2 cup of sugar, and a whole can of pumpkin, but followed everything else as suggested. I also made a cream cheese frosting for the top, and finely chopped 1/4 C. of walnuts and mixed 2 Tbl. brown sugar with a pinch of cinnamon and sprinkled it on top, what a great cake. I am the only woman where I work and all my "boys" loved this cake. I brought home an empty pan. Thanks for a really great cake. I will be making this one again. =)

Wonderful Banana Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2007
This was a really good cake and easy to make. I made two, 5 ounce boxes of cook and serve banana pudding and let it cool. I cut the cake into small cubes and layered it in a triffel bowl making a layer of cake and a layer of pudding, adding sliced bananas as I layered. I topped it off with whipped cream and sliced bananas. It was not only very tastey, it also looked like a picture on the cover of a magazine. Thanks for a great cake. =)

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2007
This chili is better than my own chili recipe, I mean it is awesome. I made it "almost" as directed, except I did not have cayenne pepper, and I left out a bit of the spicy stuff, it was still spicy, but not too overpowering. I took it to our saturday poker game and everyone loved it, even people who won't eat spicy could not get enough of it. Thanks for a keeper. Gail

Cookies 'n Cream Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2007
This cake turned out good. I made it in a sheet cake pan(9 x 13 x 2).I added 2 cups of crushed oreos to the batter and it was good. I made the frosting and it did taste just like the frosting in the center of the oreo cookies. I also crushed the remainder of the bag of cookies and sprinkled on top of the frosting. I served it with vanilla ice cream and then wished I had bought the cookies and cream ice cream. The cake did not last, as every one said it was great. Thanks for a keeper. Gail

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
This slaw was absolutely wonderful. I made it exactly how it was written except I had to shred a head of cabbage and some fresh carrot for the slaw mix so I wasn't sure when I had 16 ounces. It turned out really good. Thanks for sharing, will make again. Gail

Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
This cobbler is good. I used 15 peaches and 1/4 C. of both juices and 5 T.cornstarch. I think the nutmeg is over powering. Next time I will just use cinnamon. the crust is very good and can be used with other fruit pies/turnovers.

Tarragon-Almond Green Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
This recipe is a good change from regular ho-hum beans. The vinegar taste is a bit much, next time I think I will cut the vinegar in half, or add a bit more sugar, or both.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
This bread is very good if you are looking for one that is more like cake. Make sure you bake it for 65 minutes as mine cake tested done at 60 minutes at 350 and it was doughy in the middle.

BUSH'S® Best Black Bean Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2009
I liked this bean salad recipe but the vinegar was a bit over powering. So I modified it a little. I used all the ingredients listed except I only added 3 tablespoons of the vinegar and added two tablespoons of white sugar. I also used a can of the Southwestern style corn as I like more beans and less corn. My cilentro was from a spice jar instead of fresh. The sugar added just a hint of sweetness that really brought out the flavors. it was even better the next day after it set in the fridge. Thanks for a good recipe.

Marshmallow Treats

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2009
The real secret to perfect krispie treats is to only use real butter with the krispies and marshmallows. And as others stated, cook on low heat, stir constantly. Also, use butter in your spreading pan and on the spatula that you mash them down with. NEVER use cooking spray as this will make them sticky and they will fall apart when cut and picked up. For a change, make them using fruity pebles, my family loves them.

PEBBLES Dino S'Mores

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
I thought these were good. I crushed a whole pack of graham crackers ( 8 crackers) and mixed them in 4 TBL melted butter and pressed it to the bottom of the foiled pan. Then spread the melted chocolate, krispie mix followed by the drizzled chocolate sprinkled with tiny mini marshmallows. I grated a regular size Hershey chocolate bar and sprinkled on top before the drizzled chocolate set. I think they are better heated in the microwave for about 20 seconds, this gives them a real smores effect as it softens the chocolate and marshmallows.

These cookies were good. I cut the recipie in half and it made 2 dozen. I made the cookie dough exactly as stated. I wanted icing so I put half a cup of white chocolate chips and 2 teaspoons of Crisco shortening in the microwave until melted and smooth and spread over the cookies then sprinkled a bit of cinnamon, boy did that add some zip!! Thanks for sharing. Gail

Sweet Potato Casserole II

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
I made this for a Veterans luncheon and it was really good. I acidentially put the cup of brown sugar into the potatoes (whoops) but it didn't affect them at all. It needed to bake for 40 minutes to get brown in my oven, but a good dish. Thanks for sharing... "G"
