I had to eat some preproccessed foods the other day.  Hubby had to cook (I had training and didn't get home until very late).  He made an Oncor dinner and I was happy to have the help.  But oh my gosh have my taste buds changed.  All I kept tasting was salt and tomato sauce that tasted like ketchup with too much oregano.  Crunchy noodle edges and cheese that was dry and mushy.

I could feel myself craving whole grain pasta with chopped tomatoes, fresh herbs and cubed mozzarella cheese with a drizzle of olive oil.  Haha.

It is amazing how my tastes have changed since I started cooking more. For example, I went to my sisters for dinner and most everything was fixed out of a box such as the au gratin potatoes. Before, I would have wowed over them. Instead, all I could taste was cardboard and couldn't help but think about how much better they would have been if they were homemade. I am all for quick and easy, and I don't mean to be knocking someone else's efforts and their time constraints and their desire to host a dinner, but I have noticed that my tastes have changed since I started cooking and preparing our meals at home and mostly from scratch.

My husband has high blood pressure, so I'm really careful about the food we eat. So much processed food is loaded with sodium. Now that I cook a lot, I notice any convenience foods we eat taste SO salty. Blech!

I am a big fan of Mark Bittman who wrote the cookbook Food Matters - 500 less meatatarian recipes. His food is rich in good ingredients and everything is fabulous in terms of taste and flavor. I'm not overly crazy about some of his deserts, etc.. but this website is really great and he's generously sharing his recipes. http://markbittman.com/
