I'm a blessed mom with 2 great kids and 1 very patient husband. I count beans for a living and when I get home I like to cook, I just don't like cleaning it up afterwards! I recently overhauled my family's diet and got rid of a lot of processed foods from our repetoire which led to much more cooking on my part and in turn led me to All Recipes.com. I love this site and visit it daily. We are trying to go green and semi-self sustainable around our home by raising our own food when we can. We are currently raising chickens for eggs and soon will add a broiler house for meat. We are getting ready for some goats for milking and also meat. My husband is a hunter and we often eat venison, sometimes quail, rabbit and dove. I find it very easy to substitute these meats for your standard grocery store fare and I feel they are much healthier for my family. I am motivated by my children every day to prepare healthy meals as I know that this is the basis to a good life. Blah, Blah, Blah
My favorite things to cook
Breads of all kinds! Jams and jellies. Anything CHOCOLATE!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas cookies and breads to give to friends and family. My late Grandmother Orr's sweet rolls. Sauerbraten with dumplings.
My cooking triumphs
Breads ( even though I just posted a question on this site asking if anyone knows how to fix a bread dough that didn't get any yeast!) When I went all natural I decided to make our own bread due to the high cost of organic breads at the market and the low availability of variety on the shelf.I pulled out my dusty old bread machine and quickly learned how to make many delicious recipes. I decided that I didn't like the shape of the baked breads coming out of the machine so now I let the machine do all the mixing and then I put the bread into a greased baking pan and cook in the oven. So, if you have put your bread machine( I know you got one, we all do) stashed in the attic, do yourself a favor and pull it out, clean it up and try this method I believe you will like the bread much more, shape makes all the difference with breads.
My cooking tragedies
I am the person who "discovered crackers" when I forgot to put the yeast into a bread recipe! LOL! But that is not my only tragedy. I have overcooked, undercooked, over-seasoned, under-seasoned ,dropped and even set fire to many meals in my time, there are just too many to list!
