I'm going to tell you about a summer dinner to remember. Okay, so this isn't fair, because this may be the last time I EVER see fresh chickpeas, and I don't know anywhere you can buy them. But if you do, oh, my goodness, this is what you do (I'll try to post a real recipe soon, too).… MORE

About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Anything fresh and local.
My cooking triumphs
My all-local dinner: I cooked Pacific Northwest mussels in a white wine I made from the grapes that grow across my porch, and used that liquid for a reduction cream sauce, and served them over nettle ravioli from Nettle Farm pasta.
My cooking tragedies
My brother still talks about the time I tried to make Crepes Suzette in high school--apparently substituting orange vodka for Grand Marnier was not such a good idea!

Toffee Cherry Butter Tarts
I didn't have quite enough sugar for 1/2 the recipe, but went ahead anyway (with about 3/4 cup). I thought my dried Bing cherries were bland, but the little touch of vinegar added the tartness they needed. I made 11 tarts, muffin-tin size; they were plenty sweet, and really tasty.

Pecan Cranberry Butter Tarts
These were delicious. I took them to a holiday party and got raves. At 19 minutes baking time, they were just the slightest bit runny still in the center.
