Chef John's Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2014
I made this for a party this weekend - so good! I've done slow cooker pulled pork but this wins on convenience (put it in the oven and forget it!) and the taste is amazing! Another winner from Chef John!

Chef John's Salt Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: May 30, 2014
This was amazing! The chicken was so moist. The gravy, however, didn't work for us. I took the 'salt generously' to heart and the pan drippings were way too salty. It had a great taste under all the salt so we'll try making the gravy again.

Tiny Chicken Turnovers

Reviewed: May 30, 2014
Below is my original review. However, the people at the party I brought these to insisted that I raise my rating from 4 to 5 stars. They requested that I make this for every get-together! ************************************** I agree with others who say this is a really great basic recipe but needs a little something added to the filling to get it to the five-star level, and that depends on your individual taste. I plan to try it with dill, tarragon, curry or Mexican spices. But it is definitely worth the work, and they look lovely. I used 3" rounds, but will try 4" the next time to make it easier to work with.

Easy Tortellini Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2013
I just used cheese tortellini from Trader Joe's and Vidalia onions and skipped the carrots (too lazy to grate them). This was phenomenal. People who claimed not to care for pasta salads loved it. I made the dressing with very high quality oil and vinegar, which brought this over the top. And it really was easy - it was a last minute addition to a party buffet based on things I had on hand.

Slider-Style Mini Burgers

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2013
I served these at a party yesterday. Not my taste, but my guests gobbled them up! I will put this in my regular party food rotation - it is really easy to do and everyone really liked them.

Parmesan Fondue

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2012
Way too much Parmesan - that was the only flavor and we tired of it quickly. We have fondue every Friday and this will not be making a return appearance.

Valentine Night Strawberries

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2012
It's Valentine's night and we just finished our Valentine's Night Strawberries. So good! My husband is diabetic so we need a lower-carb alternative, and we hate artificial sweeteners. This was perfect! I did add vanilla extract as others suggested. I also skipped the nuts (personal preference). It really is like a reverse cheesecake.

Pumpkin Brulee

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
This makes a great Thanksgiving dessert - not the same old pumpkin pie. Only issue that I had: it took me about twice as long as stated in the recipe to get the brulee to set.

Squash-Apple Bake

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
This was a hit at Thanksgiving dinner - even with the people who said they don't like squash! I cut the squash pieces to be about the same size as the apple pieces and it cooked within the time given in the recipe. I also used nutmeg and cinnamon rather than mace, and topped with walnuts to make it'fancy'. Yum!

Winter Fruit Salad with Lemon Poppyseed Dressing

We had this for Thanksgiving - it was the first thing gone! And in addition to the taste, it looks very pretty.

Brown Sugar Smokies

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2011
I'm rating the recipe as written. After considerable time in the oven, the bacon became chewy rather than crispy. To bring this up to 5 stars, use the microwave and roll the wrapped sausages in the brown sugar rather than sprinkle it on top. You have to use toothpicks rather than skewers and rearrange them while cooking to have everything cook evenly, but they come out so much better.

Quiche Lorraine I

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2011
This was SO good! I made these as mini-quiches fpr a party and they were quite a hit! (FYI: A half-recipe with 2 pie crusts makes about 3 dozen mini-quiches.)

Beef Pot Pie III

This tasted to us just like a Swanson pot pie. How much you like them will tell how much you will like this.

These tasted like very dry banana bread. I will not make them again.

Pizza Sauce and Dough

I only made the sauce for a stromboli. It was so good! I used canned diced tomatoes and dried spices, but it came out great.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
I deboned the thighs and they cooked in about half the time. What I will do differently next time: Definitely line the pan with foil. The baked-on sauce was really hard to clean.

Fried Onion Rings

Pay no attention to the nay-sayers of this recipe - it is REALLY good. Only change: salt and pepper to taste, not pinches. Otherwise, crispy and delicious!

Eggs Benedict

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2010
Eggs Benedict is my husband's favorite, and he loves this recipe (with the lemon juice measured in TSP, not TBL). And it takes me only about 10-15 minutes to make, not the 30 that the recipe says. I try to do as much simultaneously as I can, so all the pieces stay hot.
