I am a mom first and foremost! I have a wonderful 8-year old son. We also have a hairy child in our home now. She is a long-haired dachshund named Crystal. We live in the Baltimore area but are looking to move soon! As for cooking... I have been cooking since I was a child. I used to cook for my parties and sleepovers when I was a preteen. Then I went on to bigger and better things like being a housewife and cooking every day, and then cooking school as part of my Associates Degree. Now I still cook for my family as much as possible, but it's hard with a full-time job and trying to finish my Bachelor's part-time.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. But, as for daily dinners, they need to be quick, easy, and healthy! I cook Italian meals at least once a week. They are tasty, easy and family favorites!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I ALWAYS cook the big family meal on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. I also picked up a St. Patty's Day tradition of corned beef and cabbage from my mother... even though we aren't a bit Irish :)

Mashed Kohlrabi and Red Potato Bake
Very similar to Colcannon. I agree that you should boil the kohlrabi a few minutes before adding the potatoes (5 sounds good), or those pieces remain a bit crunchy and hard to mash. I added garlic powder (instead of garlic scapes) lite sour cream, olive oil spread, sea salt, and lactose free milk...mashed like crazy and served. Tasted yummy. This was our first time eating kohlrabi, and I'm not disappointed :)

Russian Tea Cakes I
I used skinned chopped raw almonds instead of walnuts (as that is what I had on hand) which was a fine replacement. Very tasty!

Cheddar Cheese Straws
The recipe calls for shredded cheeses and then changes to grated, but I used shreds. I also used 3-cheese blend which was good. Hard to shape in any appetizing form, but they were tasty!
