Zucchini Mincemeat

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2011
Fam found this one too sour and I ended up having to eat the whole pie myself. I suggest finding a way to make it less sour.

Turned out a little under done inside - had to cook longer.

Restaurant-Quality Maple Oatmeal Scones

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
I'll bet this would be good with nuts. The dried cherries are so tasty, but the maple flavour barely comes through. Have to play with that a bit.

Delicious, crispy, cool and filling enough to be a meal in itself. Great!

Afghan Beef Raviolis (Mantwo)

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
My split peas also never formed into a "slurry" but more like a rather thick paste. Tasty meal nonetheless! I really think these ought to be steamed if you have the time as the taste is just so much lighter.

Chalau

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2009
I thought this was fantastic! Made it with full oil too. Great as is, but may try the tomatoes and even potatoes as suggested in other comments for a different taste. Also, might want to pump up the cayenne as it wasn't very spicy dish at all.

Afghans

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2009
Somewhat unappealing. Chewy yes, chocolaty sure, but not really what I'm looking for in a cookie. The chewy cornflakes threw me off a bit.

Afghan Tomato Soup (Aush Goshti)

No complaints. Delicious as written. The only difference with mine was that I used spinach fettuccine. Yummy.

Aush (Afghani Chili)

Doesn't look anything like North American style chili so don't be expecting that. Still delicious though!

Qabali - Afghani Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2009
Odd. My rice also ended up like mush, and after baking comes out like some sort of rice casserole. The instructions for cooking rice are unique so I think I'll stick to cooking it in the normal fashion next time. I also had a problem with the sugar in oil not dissolving properly. The flavour of the dish is interesting - halfway between savory and sweet. I have no idea if this is authentic or not, but personally didn't do it for me.

Three Cheese Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2009
Cheese and potatoes - how can one go wrong? Made this recipe exactly as written and turned out fantastic. Less liquid than regular scalloped potatoes, but delicious nonetheless.

Vegetarian Tourtiere

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2009
I'm not vegetarian, but I do eat vegetarian meals once in a while. I have to admit though, this vegetarian tourtiere leaves something to be desired. I always wanted to find an excuse to try TVP, but never could find a use for it. Having tried it, however, I don't think I'll be eagerly awaiting another opportunity. Looks like ground meat, but tastes... uh, unique. To make matters worse, half the recipe instructions are missing. Thanks Jkalea for your step 3!

Durian Puree Cheesecake

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
The durian flavour comes out well! Although my Malaysian wife and her family were quite repelled at the idea of durian in a cheesecake, I thought it tasted not bad at all. Durian is definitely an acquired taste and this is a good way to try it. Mine also didn't turn out quite as yellow as the picture submitted with the recipe.

Noni Afghani

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
The caraway seeds really make this bread tasty. My bread rose a lot more than it should have - making it look more like western-style buns. I'm not sure how to keep the bread flat with all that yeast. Tasty nonetheless.
