Sloppy Joe Spaghetti

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2012
I had high hopes for this but it just wasn't something we liked. I had to throw it out. I made it as stated. I know other reviewers felt it was too dry. I didn't find that to be the case. The flavors just didn't seem to go well together for me.

Anna's Amazing Easy Pleasy Meatballs over Buttered Noodles

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2012
This recipe is super easy. I love the sauce it makes It turns out, I don't like frozen Italian meatballs. I would gladly make this again with homemade meat balls because the sauce was yummy. I sprinkled some French Fried onions on top of my bowl. It was just another layer of flavor.

Rice-so-Nice

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
This rice was so easy and delicious. I didn't have canned mushrooms but I did have fresh. I just sliced a handful up and threw them in. Cooked beautifully. The rice did not have a greasy appearance in the pan nor did it taste greasy, but it left grease all over the plate. Looked a little unappetizing. Next time I may cut the butter in half.

Divinity

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2011
I never made divinity before trying this recipe. I was really scared because I know it can be difficult. This took a long time but it worked perfectly. I followed the recipe exactly using the high humidity correction of leaving a little water out because it was raining here. Very easy as long as you are patient!

Soft Sugar Cookies IV

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2011
These cookies are so easy to make and is very forgiving! I did not have enough shortening but after reading several reviews, I went ahead and made them with all butter. They still turned out light and soft. I am not a huge sugar cookie fan but my family likes them. After mixing the dough, I decided I would like it a little sweeter. I added about 1/4 cup more sugar. This is my personal taste and does not mean the recipe as stated is off. I just don't like icing so prefer to up the sugar in the dough to compensate. I rolled into balls dipped in colored sugar and then flattened with a glass. My oven runs a little hot so I cooked them 9 minutes, cooled on pan one minute and then moved to cooling rack. Perfect.

Shoyu Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2011
The marinade tasted great but some how the chicken was a little disappointing. I marinated it for 2 hours and I added all of the optional ingredients. It was o.k. but didn't knock my socks off. I probably won't make this again.

Traditional Slovak Haluski

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
I have to preface this by saying I have never tried Slovak Haluski before so I can't comment on if it tasted like it was supposed to. I can say that it was delicious! I had some problems following the recipe since I have never seen this dish before. I was unsure on how to do the potatoes. It seemed that precooked potatoes would be easier to puree but since that was not mentioned, I used raw potatoes. I was also unsure what a small potato would be. There are small red potatoes the size of golf balls and then small idaho potatoes. I judged my potatoes to be med. so I used 2 1/2 potatoes. Not sure this was right because my dough was really sticky. It is noted that the dough will be sticky so I just kept going. My dough was a little too wet to cut so I dropped by teaspoonfulls into the water. What I ended up with were very unappetizing looking dumplings! I tasted them at this point and decided to go ahead and fry the already boiled dumplings in the bacon fat as described in the foot note. I followed that version along with the onion and sour cream. The results were a very rich, yummy dish. I hope to catch the creator on the buzz and find out what I could do to ensure a prettier version next time. My family was too chicken to try it. I can't blame them because I'm sure there are grandmothers all over the world turning over in their graves at my ugly version of their great dish!

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2011
This is so good and forgiving too! I needed a cheap meal for my family and had a bag of yellow onions. They were rather strong so I just used 3 large instead of the 4 large called for. I kept everything else the same. Tasted wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing this delicious treat and putting an end to my craving for french onion soup!

Amazing 'Pizza' Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2011
This recipe is absolutely delicious! Even my husband who doesn't care for pork chops ate several of them. Very juicy. I did this on the stove top and the whole thing took 25 minutes including prep time. I heated a fry pan coated with Pam cooking spray on med. high heat. I browned the chops on one side and then turned them. I skipped the olive oil and topped with the rest of the ingredients including the cheese. I covered the pan and turned down the heat for 10 minutes. The cheese was melted and the chops were cooked through. Very moist and the dish is beautiful. It made my whole house smell heavenly! Thanks for sharing this recipe. I will be using it for years to come!

Breaded Chicken Fingers

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2011
This recipe was simple to make and if you don't count the marinating time, doesn't take much time to make. The fingers were pretty and tasty. My only complaint is that for us, they need more seasoning. I will definetly make them again.

Sandy's Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2011
I followed the recipe exactly except I used coffee instead of the boiling water. The cake turned out nice and was moist. The layers were easy to work with and the icing came together great. I am usually a boxed cake mix kind of girl so this is saying a lot! far as that goes, it could be rated a 5. That said, the cake was so rich and sweet that it was not a big hit. We all felt sugar sick after eating it. I don't think I will make this again. If I do venture to do this again, I would have to use less icing or a different recipe. The icing is delicious but I think it is what sent the cake over on the sugar meter for us!

Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2011
This cake is delicious! I followed the directions exactly except I skipped the freezer part. I didn't feel like it was safe to raise the temp. of the freezer by putting the hot cake in there. Even with skipping this step, the cake is wonderfully moist. It had a good banana flavor and would be fine without icing but of course, the icing only makes it better! I highly recommend this recipe! Some people stated that it was dense like banana bread. I did not find that to be the case.

Mr. Mason's Chili

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
I love that this chili is so simple to make and that it can be made with stuff I keep on hand. It is a little different than the chili that I am used to . It has the consistency of taco meat and barely any liquid. I wasn't sure I liked that at first but I put it on a bag of Fritos and it was great. They didn't get soggy! The chili wasn't quite spicy enough for me. I had to add a little cayenne pepper. Overall, it is a good recipe and I would make it again.

The Best Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2011
This marinade was easy to make with things I had on hand and it helped to tenderize the steak. The flavor however, did not appeal to me. If I were rating it on taste alone, I'm afraid it would be a one. The marinade was overpowering and it was all I could taste. I like all the ingredients in the recipe but somehow the combination of them did not work for me.

Meatball Nirvana

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
These meatballs are so flavorful! I normally am not a big meatball fan because they are usually bland. These have a great taste and texture! I tripled the recipe and ended up using two pounds beef and one pound lean ground pork because that is what I had. Otherwise I followed exactly. I plan on doing spaghetti and meatballs tonight and then meatball sandwiches tomorrow.

Freezer Fruity Waffles

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2011
These were delicious! I don't have a waffle maker so I used Kitten's alternative method and thinned the batter with a little more milk and made pancakes. I used maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal. The hint of maple was perfect and we didn't use syrup on our pancakes. Just added a little butter. I have tried 3 or 4 pancake recipes on this site and never found THE one until now. So good and easy. For me, one batch made 18 pancakes approximately 6 inches in diameter. Thanks for sharing!

South Texas Carne Guisada

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2011
This is really good. I am constantly in search of a recipe as good as my grandma's. It isn't quite as delicious as hers was but then again she has been dead 10 yrs. and had alzheimers before that so my memory could be fading! Probably been at least 15 yrs. That said, this was very good and easy. I used round steak because that is what I had. Only other change I made was I omitted the water. I figured if it needed it, I would add it later. Never was necessary. I would highly recommend this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
