I have been married to the same man for almost 18 yrs. We have one son who we love and adore. He has Asperger's syndrome so raising him has been challenging at times. He amazes me every day!
My favorite things to cook
I love food and I enjoy cooking all sorts of things. I probably cook mexican food and italian food the most. It is so hot here in Texas that I grill a few meals worth of meat at a time and enjoy finding new ways to fix it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I always loved baking cookies at Christmas time with my mom and brother. Now my son and I carry on that tradition. I have to make gingerbread men every year or it just isn't Christmas to me. I also love to make my grandmother's mexican wedding cookies. During the year, I rarely make cookies but will sometimes bake bread. I also took care to learn my grandmother's recipes before she died. She learned her cornbread dressing recipe from her grandmother. None of her kids asked how she did it. They were so happy to learn that I had the recipe. Now I make it every Thanksgiving.
My cooking triumphs
Probably my biggest triumph has been learning how to make tamales. I have had to teach myself. My grandmother made the best tamales but she came down with alzheimers before I became interested in cooking. Mine are good but still not as good as hers.
My cooking tragedies
I don't know if it is a tragedy but I cannot make flour tortillas. They are always too thick and shaped like a puzzle piece. My step grandma tried so hard to teach me but I just never did get it right. She would always patiently fix them for me. I really regret not being able to get them right.
