About this Cook
I love my family and I love to entertain. Nothing pleases me more than when someone asks me for the recipe!
My favorite things to cook
Sweets! God help me! (smile) My preference is to cook from scratch. I find that I enjoy the flavor and the richness of the food much more. I have a sensitive palate and often, I can taste preservatives etc. in processed foods.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband's side of the family loves to roast a pig for New Year's.
My cooking triumphs
Last year, I started Thanksgiving dinner several days in advance. So, by Turkey day, my family and I just enjoyed eachother!
My cooking tragedies
I rarely used box mixes, and if I do, I NEVER follow the instructions exactly. However, last Dec. I had one on hand and I decided to make my daughter's birthday cake with it. I followed the directions to a "T" and that was the WORSE cake ever! I had even made whipped cream frosting and whipped it by hand! That ended up being about the only part that got eaten! My husband and I still joke about it from time to time!

Ultimate Gulf Coast Gumbo
I lived in New Orleans most of my life this recipe seems great, but noted a "lack of flavor" might be due to Old Bay Seasoning which is common on the East Coast, not in the South. We usually use Zetairan's Creole Seasoning or Tony Chachere's. Try that instead for a more authentic flavor.

Cream Cheese Cupcakes
Awesome! The family loved that they were serving sized and they went very quickly! As for my adjustments, I'd suggest mixing the graham cracker crumbs with the sugar and sprinkling them into the cupcake cups. Then just put a pat of butter on top (before you add the cream cheese). The crust comes together perfectly on its own while they're in the oven. We loved it, and I will definitely make this again!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies IV
I did not care for this recipe! I tried it twice and included all the suggestions and it came out a fluffy mess. They weren't even recognizable! The recipe has way too much flour for the amount of oats. I'd recommend finding a recipe with about 2 times the oats to the flour ratio. Had to abandon this one and find another recipe. But this is the first time I've found a highly rated recipe that didn't work for me.
