Pan de Muertos (Mexican Bread of the Dead)

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2013
Preparation was easy. I followed the recipe exactly except for cooking 10 minutes less than stated. I'm glad I checked because if I had left it in longer, the bottom would have blackened. The glaze on the bread was awesome and I probably sprinkled a little more sugar on top then called for. While the taste of the bread was good, I did find the texture to be dry. In hindsight, maybe a tablespoon of oil mixed in with the milk and eggs, might help with the dryness. It was good soon after getting out of the oven, but the dry texture was more noticeable when eaten later on in the evening. I tossed the remainder of the bread the next day. If it wasn't for the dryness, I think this recipe would rate 5 stars for me.

Chocolate Zucchini Cake III

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2012
Love this cake! Very moist and chocolatey. Followed some alterations and only used 1 cup oil, and added 1 tsp vanilla, and subbed chocholate chips for the nuts. Grated the zucchini and mixed everything in my KitchenAid. Cooked in a bundt pan for 65min. I didn't even hide from my kids that there were zucchini in it. They didn't care and you couldn't even see the zucchini when it was done baking. The whole family really enjoyed it.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
This is a great tasting cookie, just like a brownie with a cakelike consistency. I made no changes except for adding white chocolate chips. The batter was very wet and I was worried about it spreading too much, so I placed it in the freezer for about 30 min before using my small cookie scooper and they did not spread too flat at all. I will be using this recipe again. My kids really enjoyed it.

No Bake Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2011
Turned out delicious! Even my husband liked it, he snuck a second slice without me noticing. Lol. I used a premade graham cracker crust. There definitley was not enough filling to fill it, so next time, I will have to double the filling. Followed directions exactly, except I used 1 tablespoon of fresh squeezed orange juice since I didn't have any lemons on hand. The consistency was nice and so was the flavor. I will definitly be making again. No more buying the store bought premade kind again. This is soo easy.

Chewy Cocoa Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2011
I've stopped buying boxed brownies since I've discovered this recipe! It is so easy to put together and gives me a consistent result every time. Moist, chocolatey, and not cakey. I follow the recipe exactly, except that I omit the nuts since the family doesn't like them. I usually bake for 20 min only.

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2011
I was craving some muffins and had all these ingredients on hand and looked so easy. I was a little disappointed in the result. After reading some reviews, I used a full cup of milk and also about 1/4 cup of sour cream. The taste and texture turned out ok. The only thing I had an issue with was the cook time. 400 degrees seemed high to me so I only cooked for 20 min, even then my muffins came out dark and the tops were pretty hard. Totally overcooked. I prob should've taken it out 3-5 min earlier. Ended up throwing most of it out as my kids didn't like them.

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2011
This is the my first time ever making lemon bars and I am very pleased overall with the results. I did follow the recipe exactly except for the amount of lemon juice. "two lemons" is not clear enough, so like other reviewers I put in a total of 2/3 cups of fresh lemon juice and the zest of 1 lemon. Crust of flaky and buttery and the filling tart enough to my liking. The only thing I would do differently next time, is to double the filling as I would've like there to have been more filling. Other than that, this is a great recipe!!

Sophie's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2008
Out of desperation from out of the control zuccini plants from my garden, I tried making zucchini bread yesterday for the firt time and it turned out delicious!! My 10 year old refuses to eat zucchini but he tried this after smelling it all over the house and he LOVES it. I made half a batch and followed directions exactly except I used a 8x8 pan and cooked it for about 45 minutes. Came out soft, moist, and perfect and completely gone before dinner even started. It is now a day later and I am making 2 full batches.

Ultimate Maple Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2007
First time ever making a snickerdoodle! Turned out pretty good. Decent consistency and chewiness. The dough was really wet though so I had to refrigerate for about 15 min before I could even attempt to make a ball and roll in a cinn/sugar mix.

Applesauce Cake VI

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2007
I halfed the recipe since it seemed alot for making a first time. I pretty much followed the recipe except for two slight changes. Like most everyone, I didn't use all the oil it asked for. I just added a little more applesauce. I also used a homestyle applesauce that had chunks of apples in it. It came out incredibly moist! My little ones loved it, even with out the confectioner sugar sprinkled on top. Not too sweet. I put it in an 8x8 pan. Next time I'll just make as muffins. Will definitely be making again.
