Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2010
This was delicious! I can't get macaroni salad in England and hadn't thought of making my own. It was very easy I will be making it again and again. I added a hard boiled egg and left out the pimentos [didn't have them]. I added the recommended amount of sugar because I like a sweet macaroni salad, but it was waaay to sweet! I ended up topping up with mayo to balance it out and it was good, but only gets 4 stars because I will only use 1/2 the sugar next time.

Big Al's K.C. Bar-B-Q Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2010
YUM! I've tried so many terrible BBQ sauce recipes and went with this as it had so many good reviews. It's sweet, tangy and a little smoky. I prefer a stickier sauce, so I simmered for 30 minutes. It was perfect. I used this with the slow-cooked rib recipe on this site and was blown away! I'll be making a lot more of this BBQ sauce and storing it away to use over the spring/summer. I've recommended this recipe to everyone I know!

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2010
These ribs are amazing! They are fall off the bone, melt in your mouth delicious. I baked these in the oven with salt and pepper as directed, but used Big Al's KC BBQ Sauce recipe [from this site] for the sauce. I was a little dubious about cooking ribs in a slow-cooker instead of a BBQ, but the meat was unbeatably tender. Highly recommended!

Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
i couldn't believe how good these were based on how easy they were to prepare! both my husband and i were almost drooling from the smell, and they tasted even better. i'll probably simmer mine a bit longer next time, or leave it uncovered while i simmer, as i prefer them to be a little less 'sloppy'. great recipe, though!

Best Buckwheat Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
i followed the advice of other members and prepared my batter the night before. the pancakes did turn out fluffy, but they buckwheat flavor was overpowering. i've had buckwheat pancakes in restaurants before and liked them, but these didn't really do it for me. sorry!

White Chocolate-Cranberry Biscotti

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2007
i was looking for something to ship to my sister overseas. i was anxious that i hadn't tried the recipe out first, but it was even better than i expected! i'd never had fresh, homemade biscotti, and now i wouldn't even touch the packaged cafe stuff. i made this with a bar of white chocolate chopped up into chunks because i couldn't find any chips here in the london. i followed the recipe exactly otherwise. the only complaint i have is that i now have to send them across the ocean!

Taqueria Style Tacos - Carne Asada

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2007
What a marinade! As many reviewers before, I only used this recipe for the marinade. I used my own guacamole recipe and homemade flour tortilla recipe [absolutely no corn masa available in London!], and they were unbelievable! Next time I will at least double the recipe, because we just couldn't get enough. Thanks so much for this excellent recipe!

Peanut Butter Balls II

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2007
i'd been seriously craving these, and i'm glad i made them. they are delicious, but they are rich! great recipe, but i felt that the chocolate to fat ratio in the sauce wasn't right. i had to add a lot of extra fat to make it smooth and thin enough for dipping. i found they were easy to dip with chopsticks. the toothpick didn't pull the peanut butter ball out of the chocolate again. i made a couple of changes-- i melted the butter for the dough as recommended by other users. they bound together well, so i'm glad i did. also, as i live in the uk and don't have any access to graham crackers, i used crushed up digestives. if you've never had them, don't be shocked by the name. they're actually pretty similar to graham crackers and they are often used, crushed up, for an easy pie crust. i needed 8 plain digestives for this recipe. also, for those that don't know: the easiest way to crush graham crackers [or digestives for that matter] is in a ziplock bag [remove excess air] and a rolling pin. it's so much easier! thanks for this recipe.

Fast and Friendly Meatballs

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2007
Adaptable and delicious! As many other people here, I altered the recipe to add some more spices, garlic and onion. They were perfect with spaghetti, and then the leftovers were excellent on french bread with barbeque sauce. Never again will my husband eat a meatball sub from subway. I was very surprised with how well they turned out, considering how easy they were to make. Thanks for this great recipe!

Bread Machine Bagels

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2007
i think i have an especially high standard for bagels, but these did not impress me. i'm used to the fresh bagels from my jewish family owned bagel shop in the suburbs of chicago, and these just don't measure up. my bagels came out way too chewy, with a mild crunch only when they first came out of the oven. it's possible that i made mistakes along the line somewhere, but i thought i'd followed the recipe exactly. in my opinion, too much work for a mediocre result. i'll stick to store bought.

San Francisco Sourdough Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2007
with a good starter, this bread was perfect! i followed this recipe almost exactly [excluded the onions on top because my husband and i aren't too fond of them]. used these for breadbowls for mulligatawny soup and we were getting so full, but couldn't stop eating! in future i'll make 4 smaller loaves out of this, which would be a more reasonable breadbowl for us. thanks for this recipe, it will become a staple.

Sourdough Starter

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2007
i couldn't believe how easy this was! i considered giving only 4 stars for not explaining when/how much we need to feed, but this starter was so forgiving! i'm not entirely sure i fed it enough, but i used it to make 'san francisco sourdough' and it came out perfectly! it is now nearly a week old and i've put it in the refrigerator. i'll be using this starter again and again!!

These were so easy! I added a little garlic powder and onion powder with the salt and pepper, and they were awesome. My husband wants these again, soon!

Cherry Cobbler I

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2007
This was so good!! I do wonder why people don't like it, and I wonder if it is more due to the presentation. There was a lot of liquid left at the bottom-- I'd probably make less syrup next time, but the bottom of each slice was just lightly soaked with the syrup, and it was perfect! I did reduce the sugar in the batter by nearly 1/2 based on previous reviews, but did the rest exactly as described. I'll be making this one again!

Chocolate Pinwheels

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2007
these cookies looked perfect, and tasted as good as they looked! i did bake one batch a few minutes longer than recommended, until the 'vanilla' part started to brown, and the chocolate flavour came out better. i'd definitely be making these again!
