Our part-time boat neighbors left for their Wisconsin home this morning, so last night we had a "clean out the fridge" pizza party. LW and I both had some flatbreads, which are perfect for little pizzas with different toppings. In my last blog I wrote about some random ingredients I was trying… MORE

Today is the end of the week for my weekly budget challenge- spending only $15 per day- and tonight's dinner will be a real challenge, as I only have $2.25 to spend. I've done an ingredient search on every combination of the random items in the galley, and nothing is jumping out at me yet. I… MORE

Happy Island, also known as Cass Cay, is an uninhabited island outside of our marina, about a 15 minute dinghy ride away. Since the water in the marina isn't suitable for swimming, many of the live-aboards zip out here for a cool swim on a hot day.I can't seem to get a straight answer as to why… MORE

OK, I am definitely not an expert on wines, but I guess that you know your sparkling wine has turned bad when it has become the color of cheddar cheese. Well, we're tough, we drank it anyway. We were having a Poor Man's happy hour on the boat earlier this week...T had brought home a bottle of… MORE

OK- sorry, ladies, no photos of my husband shirtless today- though he was flattered by all the positive comments! I have photos of the island of St John instead...I had to deliver a jewelry order  there today. My account here is a cute little boutique in Cruz Bay; the ferry stop and most… MORE

Hello! My first attempt at Bread Bowls turned out pretty well...they tasted great, but didn't really rise into a nice bowl. T called them Bread Sleds. Bread Pontoons. Bread UFO's. HaHa. The crab chowder was good, too, and had both again for dinner the next day!On Thursday, T went lobster diving… MORE

Hello Everyone!  Earlier this week, instead of going to Happy Hour, we went to Misery Hour: one of our favorite restaurants, The Toad and Tart, is owned by an Englishwoman with a sense of humor. (It's not clear in the photo, but her roadside sign says "Leftovers and Roadkill") Hence- the… MORE

About Me
I live on a sailboat in the Virgin Islands with a tiny fridge, so there is no room for leftovers. I love the ingredient search on this site...I never waste anything! It's very expensive to live here, so we do a menu challenge-trying to spend less than $15 a day on food.
My favorite things to cook
I am a jewelry designer and work for myself, so I have the flexibility to make time-consuming or complicated meals, but I usually end up making something quick and easy or using the slow cooker.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Oyster dressing is a must for Thanksgiving and Christmas! I keep Grandma's handwritten recipe and follow it exactly.
My cooking triumphs
My very first turkey for my husband! It's called a Black Turkey, and the best I've ever had!
My cooking tragedies
There was a Key Lime Pie that we do not talk about!
