Happy Father's Day to everyone! We do not have kids, but we do have a dog, so we celebrate dog-mother and dog-father's day. I am making a special meal for T tonight- Oven Baked BBQ Ribs and Sweet Restaurant Slaw, both from this site, along with cheesy mashed potatoes. I have never made ribs… MORE

Ok,ok, not my personal French chef... T and I recently spent a week in Paris, and one of the highlights was the day we took a French cooking class. We met in the morning at the markets, and our chef took us to the cheese shop, the butcher, the fish shop, the bakery, and the fruit/vegetable… MORE

Good Day Everyone! This should be a good week for my $15/day menu challenge (for details see my first blog entry "A Real Galley Kitchen")- we are off the boat and are apartment/dog sitting for some friends. So this is our view for the week! I admit I'm a sucker for a good rainbow/sunset… MORE

Hello! I am at the end of  my week with my $15 a day menu challenge, and I am pleased to report that I came in $4.92 under budget, so that will go into my piggy bank for the next vacation. It has been very hot here the last couple of days, so I am using the crockpot again for dinner… MORE

Good Day! Many have asked how I grew up in Indiana and found myself in the Caribbean...I ALWAYS hated the weather in Indiana...went to college in Chicago and swore I'd live on an island someday and never ever be cold again. I didn't really think that one could do it without being retired or a… MORE

Good Day All! The enchiladas from last night turned out to be delicious... we ate the whole 9x13 pan! Tonight I am making pizza- could eat it every day! I had a little extra time this afternoon, so was able to make fresh dough. We are having it with bacon (on sale), garlic, tomatoes, peppers,… MORE

Good Day! Yesterday was one of those wonderful days when you both have the day off with nothing to do and it is rainy and cozy all day. Ok, I confess, too much rain and the boat leaks, but still. We were much too busy watching DVD's all day to cook. We could have TV reception at the dock, but… MORE

Good Day! Thanks for all the  positive comments on my first entry! Yesterday was a great day...T and I both had the day off (he is a boat captain for a day-sail charter boat, and I work for myself designing and creating jewelry...so I gave myself the day off!) T had been spearfishing and… MORE

About Me
I live on a sailboat in the Virgin Islands with a tiny fridge, so there is no room for leftovers. I love the ingredient search on this site...I never waste anything! It's very expensive to live here, so we do a menu challenge-trying to spend less than $15 a day on food.
My favorite things to cook
I am a jewelry designer and work for myself, so I have the flexibility to make time-consuming or complicated meals, but I usually end up making something quick and easy or using the slow cooker.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Oyster dressing is a must for Thanksgiving and Christmas! I keep Grandma's handwritten recipe and follow it exactly.
My cooking triumphs
My very first turkey for my husband! It's called a Black Turkey, and the best I've ever had!
My cooking tragedies
There was a Key Lime Pie that we do not talk about!
