Husband caught two gigantic crabs that will become dinner! The claws were so big that we had to use a hammer and a rolling pin to open them...and they were delicious. The dog agrees! We ate lots of delicious meals this week, though we went slightly over budget ($105) for the week.… MORE

This week I stepped out on All Recipes and tried two new dishes from the recent issue of Bon Appetit magazine. The first was Chicken al Mattone, which is a whole chicken roasted under a foil wrapped brick. The trick is that you have to remove the backbone so it lays flat. I have never cut… MORE

Yesterday we took a boat trip to the British Virgin Islands and went snorkeling at Treasure Island. Really- the Treasure Island from the book! Some friends rented a boat for the day, and T captained. One of our stops was the caves at Norman Island, which is largely believed to be the… MORE

It's that time of year again- hurricane season! In the 7 years that I have lived on island, we have been very lucky- 2 near misses and no direct hits. We all keep our fingers crossed from June to November, the official season, but August through October are typically the most active storm… MORE

As many of you that follow my blog will know, my husband, T, works as a captain for a day-sail charter boat here in the Virgin Islands. A few days ago, he had a trip to do, but all of the crew mates were assigned to a large group on the other boat the company owns. So guess who got drafted to… MORE

Our part-time boat neighbors left for their Wisconsin home this morning, so last night we had a "clean out the fridge" pizza party. LW and I both had some flatbreads, which are perfect for little pizzas with different toppings. In my last blog I wrote about some random ingredients I was trying… MORE

About Me
I live on a sailboat in the Virgin Islands with a tiny fridge, so there is no room for leftovers. I love the ingredient search on this site...I never waste anything! It's very expensive to live here, so we do a menu challenge-trying to spend less than $15 a day on food.
My favorite things to cook
I am a jewelry designer and work for myself, so I have the flexibility to make time-consuming or complicated meals, but I usually end up making something quick and easy or using the slow cooker.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Oyster dressing is a must for Thanksgiving and Christmas! I keep Grandma's handwritten recipe and follow it exactly.
My cooking triumphs
My very first turkey for my husband! It's called a Black Turkey, and the best I've ever had!
My cooking tragedies
There was a Key Lime Pie that we do not talk about!
