Caribbean-Spiced Pork Side Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
I made these for our traditionally untradtional thanksgiving this year and good rave reviews. I made three racks for 7 people and only had enough left over for two plates to send home. The flavor was fantastic, they weren't dry, the lime flavor snuck in but didn't overwhelm, the ginger stood out and the rest blended very nicely. Everyone was pleasently full. The meal was ended with jamaican plantain tarts, also from this site and ......... My best friend made the carribean holiday shrimp and the hard do bread for our appetizer and bread while my adopted little sister made the jamaican rice (also from this site) as a side dish as well. The meal was fantastic and every bit of it was from this site! THANKS AGAIN ALLRECIPES.COM!

Pizza Dough III

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
After reading the reviews I started w/2 1/2 cups of flour and did have to add a bit more to make workable dough after rising 1 hour. Pre-baked 5 mins in 400 degree oven. Topped w/sauce, mozzerella, pepperoni, italian sausage, onions, mushrooms, and black olives. I made 3 batches and made 1 thin crust on a large cookie sheet, 1 "hand tossed" type of crust on a small cookie sheet, and 1 batch of breadsticks. Pizza was really good (even though I forgot to add garlic powder and italian seasoning into the dough) but the bread sticks were only so-so. After we finished the breadsticks I realized I should have let them rise again after shaping, so no fault of the recipe at all !LOL! I do suggest starting w/the extra flour and adding seasonings before cooking. I wouldn't call the crust "dull", but it would have been even better had I remembered to add the seasonings.

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
This is the roll recipe I've been looking for :) These got GREAT reviews from family and friends. I was asked why i didn't make a double batch and my brother-in-law asked me to make them again for his b-day dinner. I made 12 clover leaf rolls from deviding the dough into 36 balls and placing 3 balls in each cup of my muffin tin. Next time I'm trying the 9x13 pan and 18 balls. GREAT recipe....Thanks :)

Slow Cooker Venison Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
I'm giving only 4 stars due to the changes I made....This was a wonderful "base" recipie that was easy to adjust. I adjusted as follows: No Soy or Worchestishire sauces and substitute garlic powder or crushed garlic for the garlic salt. Salting venison will lead to dry meat.....even from the crock pot. Next I only used 1/4 to 1/2 of the soup mix (also because of salt content)and substituted cream of celery soup due to a mushroom allergy in the family. I used this modified recipie to cook two-2.5 lb rump roasts and they were OUT OF THIS WORLD YUMMY! Moist, tender meat with flavour galore :) I did have to prepare my vegies (carrots, celery, tatos) in a pot on the stove due to lack of room in the crock pot, but that was fine. The soup makes a WONDERFUL gravy in the end. I did thicken it slightly w/ corn starch, but only a tad. Everyone loved the meal and today THANKSGIVING) I have been elected to attempt it again:) This time I have a 10lb venison rump roast, so I am doing it in the oven. I'll let ya know ;)****UPDATE**** The 10lb Runp Roast was.....well let's just say it's TOO BIG a piece of venison! I was forced to cook it in the oven due to it not fitting in my slow cooker. I still used this recipe and the gravy was again fantastic. The roast's flavour was good, but such a large cut of meat requires more cooking time than the moisture could take and it was dry. So stick with the smaller roasts :)

Ham and Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2008
My hubby and I really liked this one....but will make a few changes next go. It was a bit sweet for our taste, although neither of us thought it was "too" sweet. We prefer spicy however and plan to "heat it up" a bit next time, adding some crushed red pepper and lessoning the brown sugar just a tad. Kido was home when we thawed and heated up the leftovers and agreed with his father and I.

Buttery Rolls

Very good recipe. Easy to make and tasted very good, but not quite the "awsome" rolls I was looking for.

Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I'n giving this one three stars, even though mine were inedable. The flavor was fantastic, but my beans never fully cooked. I took the suggestion of a few reviewers and didn't pre-cook (did pre-soak) the beans and I'm sure that was where I went wrong. I will try this one again, due to the "sauce" of the beans being really flavorfull, but will be sure to pre-cook my beans.

Cajun Spice Seasoning Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I made a batch of this to split...half to keep and half to give as an addition to a Christmas present. I've used it several times now and LOVE it! Wheather cooked into a recipe or sprinkled on fresh french fries or on warmed up leftovers, it's a 5 star for sure!

Pepperoni Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2007
I used the Italian Bread For The Bread Machine resipe from this site, instead of frozen bread dough and added more pepperoni. This was the final recipe in our untraditional thanksgiving dinner for this year and it was GONE IN 10 MIN'S! When I removed it from the oven, the seam had not held well and it looked a bit odd, but that simply didn't matter. It smelled so good, our family and friends were eating it before the lasagna was done! GREAT recipe!

Italian Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2007
I can't say YUMMMMMM loud enough! This was the end to an almost perfect Italian Thanksgiving at our house this year. We always have an "untraditional" meal at Thanksgiving and with this year being Italian, I thought these cookies would make an appropriate desert......I have made them again since and even felt comfortable giving a batch to one of my college professors whose mother is from Sicily. He told me I had made his Mamma's christmas cookies...and had done a great job! UPDATE: I've made these several times and they are ALWAYS a hit with everyone who tries them.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2007
We always have an "Untraditional Thanksgiving" with our family and my best friend's family coming together to celebrate and eat. 2007's menu was italian and my first ever attempt at making lasagna. I was a bit scared, but there were NO LEFTOVERS! It was absolutely fantastic! I too made the dish the night before and let the flavors "meld" in the fridge over night and I soaked the noodles (as suggested by other reviewers) instead of pre-cooking them. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! We had two additional guests this year (a co-worker and her fiance) and they now think I'm a great cook!

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2007
I used the suggestions of many reviewers, used the boneless butt roast I had in the freezer, and made the whole family quite happy with this one! Although my roast was only 2.5lbs, I did use the entire pack of italian dressing mix as well as adding extra seasonings from my cupboard. After 8hrs on low I shredded the meat, dumped about half the leftover juice (remember my roast was half the size called for) and put the shredded meat back into the remaining juices for the last hour and a half. The meat was tender beyond belief and FULL of flavor. I served this "make your own" style. I got some wonderful bakery fresh wheat hogie rolls, offered sauteed mushrooms, sauteed purple onions, and grilled green bell peppers as toppings and then turned on the broiler to "toast" the shredded "pizza blend" cheese I picked up to top it all off with. This recipe (with the suggested adjustments) is a HUGE WINNER in our book. Next time we have decided we want to try other toppers too. Maybe tomatoes or peppercini peppers or grilled squash slices!
