About this Cook
By the time I could stir a pot I was in the kitchen with my mother. By age nine she allowed me free reign (provided I understood that whatever I created must be eaten...there was to be no wasting of food). Thankfully my recipes have matured through the years, as bologna and marsmallow sandwiches aren't the easiest to choke down. I always appreciated my mother encouraging creativness in the kitchen. She gave me good solid Southern basics and then let me run with them.
My favorite things to cook
Southern classics always remind me of home. I also cook a lot of Thai, Mexican, and Indian as well. I don't eat anything that was once warm and furry, but I do enjoy seafood and can make a very tasty tofu scramble.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was little, my brothers and myself were responsible for Sunday dinner. Each of us was assigned entree, side, or dessert. We would sift through Mom's stacks of Southern Living and pick out our recipes and she'd go and grab all of the ingredients for us. The only rule was that hot dogs and hamburgers were never allowed.
My cooking triumphs
Hmmm...My partner just bought me this Williams and Sonoma three dimensional Easter bunny cake pan and I was quite amazed at my success with the darned thing. Cake decorating is not my strong suit. We've decided we're bringing an Easter bunny to all the holidays now. vampire bunny...santa bunny...bunny pilgrim...:)
My cooking tragedies
I tried cooking these vegan muffins for a very close vegan friend of mine....I believe I could have smashed through a brick wall with one. I just can't master the baking with out eggs thing. :(

Creamy Cucumber Brussels Sprouts
I searched this recipe thinking I had brussel sprouts in the fridge and was dissapointed when I got home and discovered that I was mistaken. So I made it with broccoli instead. Very tasty, but I'm going to buy some sprouts for the next go. :)
