Country Green Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2013
Didn't use the bacon but love this. Also we used turkey broth... it was much better than just plain water boiled. Not as good as another green bean recipe I have but I'd do it again and again.

Crispy Turnip 'Fries'

Reviewed: May 24, 2012
maybe i missed something but I made these like shoestring size, looking at the #1 review for this recipe, kept everything the same and they still burned on the tips. Taste may have been better but I didn't use cheese.

Absolute Best Liver and Onions

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2012
It tastes just like my mom's and I don't believe she soaked hers at all. I just tasted like liver to me. The onions were GREAT (but they always are when sauteed), I added curry and used sunflower seeds grinded up as a flour since we're grain-free. But otherwise it was just like ok and my DH who says he never had it, never wants it again lol.

Spiced Butternut Squash Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
well this was extremely interesting. First I'd like to say my family LOVED the outcome. I used coconut milk and almond flour because we are trying to go into the SCD/GAPS diet... anyway it cooked for MUCH longer than 20 min...probably like a little more than an hour... I had the oven on 350 then turned down to 300 for the last 20min. It just seemed like it would never get bread like (it was still liquidy). Anyway, the result was still more like a mashed potato consistency. But I'm telling you my boys and hub ate it quick! They all loved it and 2 had seconds. And they did not like the butternut soup I had made yesterday so I was more than surprised. I will be making this again.

Pumpkin Cake III

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2011
It's ok... my husband who likes pumpkin a lot says it's good... I followed the recipe except for a bit more cinnamon, a bit less sugar and oil and instead of eggs used flaxseed ( since my son is allergic... flaxseed milled is a great egg substitute for more baked goods).

Algerian Carrots

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2011
this was not to our tastes at all. But I didn't steam them as directed, I steamed/baked them in the oven with all the ingredients and a bit of water (for steam). the lemon taste didn't seem right at all...

Sarah's Applesauce

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2011
This is the best applesauce. So much better than in the stores AND it's easy to make (even someone like me can do it!). My dh and ds eats it up as fast as I make it.

Shortbread Cookies II

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2011
i don't know what it is, but every time I make shortbread it is all crumbly... I did reduce the recipe b/c we didn't need a bunch. I did also reduce the flour. But could I still be putting too much flour somehow? Regardless the taste was ok just crumbly. At times like this I wish this site was more interactive so someone could tell me what I did wrong!

Zucchini Galore

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
wow this was a lot better than I thought it would be. I did saute garlic before adding the zucchini, and at the end I added pepper and a touch of butter (which was actually Earth Balance non-dairy). My husband which generally doesn't like veggies thought it was great and ate it up quickly!

Cherry Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2011
Made this for a potluck type cookout and everyone seemed to love it. Before it was dessert time it was half gone...nothing was left at the end. I liked it but thought it was a bit too sweet and yes, for the amount I used (oh and I used fresh strawberries and fresh cherries) I definitely think the crisp part needs to be doubled. Otherwise great!

Thai Spiced Barbecue Shrimp

Reviewed: May 16, 2011
wasn't what I was thinking when you say BBQ... however it's probably named that for the grilling part which I didn't do b/c we have no grill. And no curry b/c my hubby can't do spicy. I'm sure the spice would have enhanced the flavor but regardless it was VERY tasty and we ate with pasta.. what are you supposed to eat this with? btw I marinated it for 3 hrs just b/c I was busy, but if it was a shorter time I wonder if the flavor would have stuck.

probably just me but this came out good 2x's but every time after that it doesn't! the dough is all wrong and doesn't cook right (maybe it's the order of the salt but no matter what I do it's wrong). have made this like 6x's at least and will no longer.

Island Kielbasa in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2011
this was not nasty but really not something I'd make again. Even with the suggestions of lowering the brown sugar it was still WAAAAY too sweet (and this coming from someone with a sweet tooth). The ketchup was overwhelming also. I don't even get the name either... what's so "Island" about this dish? it was not a good dish for an appetizer or main with rice.
