Bob's Bean Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2008
The dressing is perfect; somehow it brings out the sweetness of the beans. I subbed black beans for the pinto beans and plain artichoke hearts (instead of marinated), and added a couple stalks of celery that I happened to have the fridge. Even my 4-year-old liked it.

Turkey Tetrazzini II

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
Sauteed 1 large chopped onion in 1/2 c olive oil (instead of butter) and added several cloves of chopped garlic when the onions were nearly done, then stirred the flour in. Taste the sauce just before combining with the spaghetti, depending on how your chicken stock is flavored, you might want to add some salt (I added about 1/2 tsp) and pepper. Also added leftover steamed broccoli florets to the mix, mounded everything into a 9x13" glass pan (it all fit, but just barely) and baked 40 minutes. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving, to absorb any excess liquid. Husband, 5-year-old son, and I all loved it.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2007
bread was very heavy and dense. Seems like there was too much liquid (e.g. mashed banana).

Whole Grain Breakfast Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2013
1 cup of chocolate chips was a ridiculous amount, they can't even be incorporated into the batter, and they make the cookies way too sweet for breakfast. My kids like them, unsurprisingly, but I would reduce the chips to 1/2 cup next time. Also will try raisins as other reviewers suggested.

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2007
Doubled the recipe, substituted unsweetened store-bought applesauce for half the oil, and reduced sugar to 1 cup per loaf. Used 3 medium-large very ripe (over 75% brown peel) bananas (a very full 2 cups mashed). Delicious! Very banana-y and still sweet enough for my 4-year old to ask for more "cake".

Grilled Chicken Thighs Tandoori

Reviewed: May 17, 2013
Delicious! I had to sub 2 tsps ground ginger for the 2 Tbs grated fresh. Marinated just 8 hours before grilling. Do scrape the marinade off before grilling over coals if you don't want the skin to get blackened (from flames shooting up when the marinade drips down) (having said that, some of us thought the crisp, blackened skin was the best part). Even the kids loved this. If you're used to super-spicy Indian food, though, this may be less to your liking.

Brown Sugar Masa Shortbread with Anise Glaze

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2013
The texture is great - a tender, buttery shortbread - but I really didn't care for the masa taste in these cookies. My 4-year-old loved them, though. Also, the instruction to flatten the (1-inch) balls of dough to 1-1/2 inches high didn't make sense - it should probably say flatten to 1-1/2 inches in diameter instead.
