Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
New family tradition! Wouldn't change a thing. Everyone loves them. They may not be the prettiest cookies, but they sure do taste good. I call them Ugly Betty's:)

Chocolate Mint Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
Great cookie! Received very well at my annual cookie swap. I didn't pay attention to the actual yield of 3 dozen, so when I saw the serving size of 18, I doubled the recipe. Heck of a lot of cookies, but really good. If you like Andes candies, you'll love these, and the chocolate cookie itself is actually really tasty alone.

Champagne Punch III

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
This was a very good punch. The Luscious Slush Punch on this site is still my favorite, and you can add alcohol to suit your taste. This recipe makes a lot, but it goes down pretty easy. Even so, it makes plenty for about 10-12 people. I wouldn't double unless you were have more guests than that.

Amazingly Good Eggnog

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
YUM!!! Everyone I've served this too loves it! I couldn't for the life of me find light cream, so I used 1 can of evaporated milk and 2.5 cups of whipping cream. I omitted the rum when I made it, so we could have some for the non-drinkers, and we spiked half of it later with a generous helping of Captain Morgan's. I also used Tahitian vanilla in place of regular vanilla (Williams-Sonoma) and it turned out fabulous!

Spinach Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
Way too much butter!!! These were very greasy, and this was a lot of work for just an average finished product.

Heavenly Blueberry Smoothie

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2010
I loved this! Used Silk Vanilla Soy milk, plain greek nonfat yogurt, and extra honey. Didn't have flax seeds but will definitely try it with next time.

Grilled Salmon I

Reviewed: May 27, 2010
I loved this! Followed the advice of the top reviewer and cooked individually in foil packets. Be sure to pour a generous amount of the sauce over the fish before sealing the foil. Served with brown rice and grilled asparagus.

Colleen's Slow Cooker Jambalaya

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2010
WORD TO THE WISE: COOK RICE SEPARATELY! This is a GREAT recipe. Easy and tasty. My only mistake was adding uncooked rice. Lesson learned. This is a spicy recipe, but the spice can be adjusted to suit your own taste. The only thing I did differently was add minced garlic, crushed red pepper, and several bay leaves.

Honey Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
I've made this twice so far and did things different each time. Both times it turned out great! This is a fabulous recipe because it can be adjusted to work with what you have in your pantry. I didn't have dark corn syrup, so I used light corn syrup and it turned out great. Second time I added some brown sugar to the light corn syrup and it was even better. Don't have a double broiler so I put mixture in a glass bowl (oven-safe) and placed it on top of a pot filled half-way with water. Put it on the stove and turned it to medium, worked great!

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
These are a staple in our house. Make for every gathering and party I host and everyone always raves about them. I follow another reviewer's advice and use 2 tsp of water and 1 tsp of vanilla. Also add sugar mixture straight to the bowl with pecans. One bowl, so easy, and delicious!

Very good dip. Used full 8 oz package of cream cheese and might add more mozzarella next time, but will definitely make again!

Bacon Wrapped Smokies

I can't say enough good things about these! Just hosted a party and almost everyone asked for the recipe. Followed another reviewer's advice and cooked at 325 for the first 25 minutes and 350 for 20. So yummy, will be making more soon!

Hot Apple Cider

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
This was really good and I don't even like apple cider! Only used half of an orange and lemon peel and I didn't remove the spices after 10 minutes; left them in about an hour and even added more cider and it turned out great.

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
I'm actually in love with this recipe! I can't think of enough good things to say about it. Although I know the submitter insisted not to substitute lower fat ingredients, being the rebel I am, I did it anyway. I used half and half and low sodium tomato juice. The results were outstanding, and I didn't miss the heavy whipping cream a bit! Enjoy...I'm going to say a prayer of thanks for finding this gem!

Artichoke Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2009
My family didn't love it. In fact, I can bet they won't ask for it again, so I had to give it 3 stars. I really like the cheesy artichoke flavor, but feel it would be more appropriate on a pasta or something other than chicken.

Easy Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
Great ice cream! I followed cookinmama's advice and cut the peppermint extract down to 3/4 tsp. and the vanilla to 1/2 tsp. and I highly recommend using a good quality chocolate and shaving it instead of using the chips. Lastly, I tried to sub 1% milk and it just isn't the same.

Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
Easy, cheap alternative to Great American Cookie Co. Tastes good, but there's something about those darned mall cookies that can't be beat! I searched high and low for a 16" pizza pan to no avail, so I ended up using 2 9" rounds. I had to decrease the baking time by almost 5 minutes, but it turned out moist and perfectly done. The only thing I recommend is adding more vanilla; otherwise, it's a good recipe.

Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
This is a really good basic recipe. Personally, I have to disagree with the top reviewers about omitting the shortening. I've made this both ways, but yesterday I decided to follow the advice of the top two reviewers and use all butter. I was highly disappointed. The shortening is a must if you're looking for that bakery icing taste!!!!! Four cups is a lot of sugar, so depending on how sweet you like your icing, this can easily be adjusted. I opt for 1.5 tsp of vanilla. Adding more milk causes this to be runnier, and if you're using it for decorating, I'd hesitate to do it.
