Poppy Seed Cookies I

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
Tasted great! I didn't put any frosting/icing on them, and they were totally yummy! I agree they were crumbly, but I don't mind my cookies light, fluffy, and falling apart in your mouth... I do wonder though, if you used the entire egg (instead of just the yolks), would that make them more firm? I'll have to try that next time.

Shrimp and Mushroom Linguini with Creamy Cheese Herb Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2009
WOW! This, I have to warn you, is VERY good and VERY rich! My mom, who always orders this kind of stuff at restaurants, swears this was the best she'd ever had, and I would have to agree. I am not that big on creamy sauces, but this one was more than edible. I would only add more basil, maybe sub some of the parsley with extra basil, but that's mostly because I love the taste of it. Anyway, I doubled the recipe and it went quickly- you won't go wrong making this for dinner. Be warned though the flavor is very thick and rich, which might help those prone to eating seconds and thirds think twice :)

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies IV

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2009
These tasted delicious! I regrettably only used half the nuts and I missed them when all was said and done, so will be using the full amount next time.. I also only used half the white chocolate, but I think that worked just fine - So next time will use all the nuts, half the chocolate :) I guess it all depends on your tastes :)

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
When I've had authentic Spanish rice in the past, it has been bland and rather tasteless, but this was not either of those! The flavors were subtle but definitely there and yummy! I did add garlic, chicken broth instead of water, and about a teaspoon of cumin as one person suggested. Turned out great! My 5 yr old daughter ate a heaping serving of it too (we had this with shredded beef tacos:)

Cheesy Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
I added the can of italian style tomatoes (with the basil and all that already in it), cumin, a cup of salsa... It turned out wonderfully, tastes like Mexican rice. I took the suggestion of others and added sour cream to my bowl - extra creamy and yummy!

Absolutely wonderful! I added carrots and more veggies overall, turned out great! My grandmother even asked for the recipe, how cool is that...

Apple Pie Bars from PHILADELPHIA®

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2013
Delicious and totally worth the small amount of effort. I had to use another 1/2 tablespoon of water in the glaze to make it usable, and I used a 10x13 instead of what the recipe calls for. It turned out "too good" as my guy says.

Angel Fruit Trifle

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
This was AMAZING and oh so perfect on a 100 degree Maryland day!! I used fresh blueberries, omitted the peaches, and made my own angel food cake (using a Southern Living "Blue Ribbon Angel Food Cake" recipe) and fresh, homemade whipped cream. TO DIE FOR!!!

Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
I usually cut my pork loin into pork chops, so I found this recipe, which looked too simple to taste as heavenly as it did! Anyway to use with pork chops, I just smooshed some of the "paste" (btw I have a rosemary plant so always use fresh and always use more than the recipe calls for :)between each pork chop, set them each one on top of the other in a ziploc bag, let them sit in the fridge for the entire day til dinner time.. When it came time to cook them I fired up the BBQ and set them on the grill, rosemary leaves and all. Everyone, including myself, thought these were hands-down THE BEST PORK CHOPS ever. I tried using this recipe on a roasted pork loin and it was nowhere near as tasty as the grilled chops were. Thus, I'd sincerely advise, if you have a pork loin, cut it into chops instead of wasting it in the oven :)

Grilled Venison Backstrap

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2013
This was amazing! Made it for football Sunday and all the guys enjoyed it -- Even asked if they could take some home with them. I made some as the recipe stated (with apple cider and smokey barbecue sauce) and half with a bottled bourbon marinade, and both were stellar. This seems like a recipe you can't go wrong on, except for everyone using apple cider vinegar instead of just plain ol apple cider :)

Yummy Sweet Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2013
OMG this is the BEST sweet potato casserole I have ever had. I never cared for sweet potatos and always turned my nose at sweet potato casseroles, but I had some in the veggie drawer and decided to try to find something to do with them -- this recipe is amazing! It is so addictive, too :) And something you can feel great about eating!

Creole Tuna

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
Awesome! I used fresh tomatoes- about 2 cups- and had to put a little bit of water in after the milk (it was way too thick!) I put a bit too much cayenne pepper in for my kids but I thought it was great and will definitely make it again! PS I didn't notice any tuna taste at all..

Citrus Turkey Brine

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
I was skeptical, but I wanted to try something new with turkey, and boy am I glad I did! I followed the recipe pretty much exactly (substituted iodized sea salt though) and the turkey was very moist and tender... It smelled heavenly too! The only negative I had about this was the flavors of the citrus and spices did not transfer to the meat, and I would recommend to flavor the turkey with the seasonings you'd like if you do want meat that has some flavor to it (flavor other than the juicy, tender, delicious poultry flavor this brine enables, of course).

Classic Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2012
First time making my own cinnamon rolls and I am IMPRESSED! However, this made a LOT of rolls, 24, and they were so large they had to be eaten half at a time. In the future, I would make the entire recipe, but freeze half of them, and make the rolls smaller. The frosting/icing was delicious, but I would probably look for another one next time I make this... I'd try cream cheese. Also, no one could believe these had mashed potatos in them :) but I think it made a difference. I definitely recommend trying this recipe -- store bought/in a can rolls simply do not compare!!!

Berdean's Cube Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
Excellent! The picture doesn't look too appetizing, but I tried it anyway, and am I glad I did! These turned out tender, not chewy, and the gravy made from the drippings was some of the best I've ever had.. Seriously! :)

Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2012
This is a very dense, but very good, white bread. It held up to dipping into clam chowder and was still light enough for my guy's sandwiches. LOVED it, and so did the kids! Not only did it TASTE good, but it felt great to make fresh bread from scratch -- I should have tried using some of this for french toast, but by the time I thought of it I didn't have enough for our brood :)

Swedish Meatballs (Svenska Kottbullar)

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2012
These were awesome and actually tasted like swedish meatballs! The only problem I had was this: the sour cream, when added, didn't completely integrate with the rest of the gravy. I had little white specs in my gravy. It still tasted delicious and I'm not particularly picky about presentation for family meals, so I'll definitely make this again. It was truly excellent over some boiled rice :)

Oaty Cereal Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
I made these in preparation for hurricane Irene for the kids to have a yummy snack in case the power went out -- I've made these every weekend since! The kids adore them, and it's so easy and quick to make. I love that it uses peanut butter (I've tried it with creamy and crunchy and they both work great) and Cheerios. It seems like we always have Cheerios to use up, and this would work great for the stale ones sitting in the pantry, haha!

Pittsburgh Potatoes

Reviewed: May 18, 2012
I was impressed with these -- I'm not normally a fan of Velveeta because it is processed, but I can see a use for it if it turns out creamy, cheesy cooking like this recipe! I added some bacon to this recipe to give a little bit of extra flavor to it. My boyfriend raved and said this tasted like his grandmother's macaroni and cheese -- definitely a high compliment!
