Berdean's Cube Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
Excellent! The picture doesn't look too appetizing, but I tried it anyway, and am I glad I did! These turned out tender, not chewy, and the gravy made from the drippings was some of the best I've ever had.. Seriously! :)

Tuna Casserole II

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2009
This was really good for a tuna casserole! I took some reviewers' suggestions though and would recommend making these changes: add at least a cup of mushrooms, maybe only use two carrots (way too many in the end product!), 1/2 cup onion, replace one cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken, add a couple dollops of sour cream and a bit of milk when stirring the soup & tuna together.. finally, don't use an 8x8, use something longer so the casserole is thinner and there's more room for the toppings! Yummy!

Detroit Hot Honey Wings

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
I tried these wings two ways - in the oven and on the grill. Frankly, the grilled version left something to be desired, and the flavor was almost non-existent. In the oven, the wings tasted wonderful and the sauce stayed on without burning. Also, I would recommend following others' suggestions to marinate the wings in the honey and hot sauce for a day before cooking.

Colcannon

Reviewed: May 18, 2012
Delightfully simple and tasty -- I used kale instead of cabbage for more flavor. Took this to a work luncheon for St. Patrick's Day and it was a hit! I'll definitely be making it again with extra kale.

Good in a pinch, but it seems to be missing something(s)?

Angel Fruit Trifle

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
This was AMAZING and oh so perfect on a 100 degree Maryland day!! I used fresh blueberries, omitted the peaches, and made my own angel food cake (using a Southern Living "Blue Ribbon Angel Food Cake" recipe) and fresh, homemade whipped cream. TO DIE FOR!!!

Cranberry-Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2011
I'll start with my son's review -- "this tastes like pumpkin pie" -- and it does. Of course, I always add nutmeg and ginger to anything with pumpkin in it, and it worked for these cookies as well. For the taste of the cookies, I have no complaint, they pass the test! But I kept them covered for two days and the pumpkin is so moist it kind of makes these feel and look like dough balls. I made them Saturday to take into work Monday, and this morning (Monday) they have some bluish-green mold growing on them :( So, be warned, put them in the refrigerator if they're going to last more than two days! Also, the cookies will retain their shape while baking, so if you don't want malformed balls at the end of it, you may want to smoosh them down a little. All in all though, these are a tasty treat, and I will be making them again :)

Soft Sugar Cookies III

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2009
I am going to have to go with everyone else on this- these cookies taste like and have the same texture of CAKE, not cookies. These are miniature cakes.. Not exactly what I was hoping for when looking for a soft sugar cookie recipe (I was thinking I would get something similar to what they sell in grocery stores)-- I would recommend baking these for kids' birthday parties or something, because my kids did enjoy them, but I personally found I didn't want to eat very many of these 'CAKE-ies'.

Clam Chowder Canadian Military Style

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2009
I added bay leaf, bacon, and some extra seasonings and it was great - the bacon didn't add much to it so wouldn't use bacon next time, unless it was as a topping, which would have been super yummy :) This was very thick and creamy, would make it again.

Poppy Seed Bread II

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
Good and scrumptious - everyone in the house enjoyed it. I've made it twice so far, once with the glaze and once without. I preferred without, as the glaze made the bread a little soggy and made it fall apart easier.

Poppy Seed Cookies I

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
Tasted great! I didn't put any frosting/icing on them, and they were totally yummy! I agree they were crumbly, but I don't mind my cookies light, fluffy, and falling apart in your mouth... I do wonder though, if you used the entire egg (instead of just the yolks), would that make them more firm? I'll have to try that next time.

Autumn Vegetables Au Gratin

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
Good flavor, just not enough of it in my opinion, and my mom commented that it could use more bread crumb topping.

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Reviewed: May 18, 2012
A perfect mix of sweet and tangy, this bread is a definite hit! I have come to crave it, especially during winter months. I used fresh cranberries, and would suggest chopping them before putting them in the batter (they taste better mingled in with the taste of the bread, rather than getting a bite full of cranberry).

Country Apple Cobbler

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2012
It doesn't get any better than this!! I've never tasted anything so absolutely delicious before... I think, if I were about to perish, I would request this as my last dish because it is heaven!! I used gala apples (I think) and a mexican cheese mixture I had in the fridge. The only thing I didn't particularly care for were the nuts, I think they would give a better texture if they were finely chopped. BTW, cheddar cheese seemed like a strange thing to put on apple cobbler, and the dough did not look that promising when I topped the cobbler, but it is completely and totally worth it. A dense, flavorful, complementary topping for the wonderful apple goodness below. If you think apple pie is delish, this will blow you away!!

Citrus Turkey Brine

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
I was skeptical, but I wanted to try something new with turkey, and boy am I glad I did! I followed the recipe pretty much exactly (substituted iodized sea salt though) and the turkey was very moist and tender... It smelled heavenly too! The only negative I had about this was the flavors of the citrus and spices did not transfer to the meat, and I would recommend to flavor the turkey with the seasonings you'd like if you do want meat that has some flavor to it (flavor other than the juicy, tender, delicious poultry flavor this brine enables, of course).

Fresh Peach Cobbler I

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
This cobbler was YUM! I love the biscuit topping, it mixes with the peaches perfectly. The kids and the hubby gobbled this whole thing up in one sitting (and yes I helped!!)

Chocolate Mint Sugar Cookie Drops

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2010
These were good, however I recommend using only one cup of chocolate chips - it was really hard to work in the the full two cups, I ended up taking out about half of them. Also, note that the cookies will retain their shape. I flattened them with my palm before baking them. Also, put 1 tsp of mint extract in place of using the mint chocolate chips, just used regular chocolate chips instead. All in all, one good cookie!

Hearty Skillet Supper

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2010
I will say this dish was decent: my kids actually ate it, and it was simple and fast. However, I would probably only use this recipe as a last resort for a rushed busy weekday. There was an overall lack of flavor, and nothing stood out in particular. Also, leftovers were even more bland, which seemed impossible because there was so little flavor to begin with.

Pork Chops with Delicious Gravy

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2009
The chops were tender and moist, and the sauce/gravy was a perfect complement to the pork. I don't think it made enough gravy if you wanted to serve w/mashed potatoes, though, so would double or even triple it. If all you want is to gravy the meat, this makes more than enough. :) I think the best part of this recipe is the gravy, and will be using it only for that in the future as I prefer grilling or frying my chops :)

Grilled Citrus Tuna

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2009
Tuna was a bit dry, and the flavors from the marinade didn't seem to penetrate the meat - I even poured some of the marinade on the tuna while BBQing it, and only barely got a hint of the citrus flavor. I think next time I would set it in the marinade overnight or something. The flavor was good, though.
