Oreo® Cookie Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2014
Very delicious... I made my own whipped cream and used Oreo cookie instant pudding instead of vanilla. I also put it in a trifle dish and would not do that again... very pretty but hard to get a serving :) definitely use the 9x13! This is totally worth making again!!

Cabbage Rolls II

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2013
The entire family enjoyed this!! One of the kids even had thirds. I cooked mine on the oven at 350 for an hour as other reviewers have mentioned. The hardest part was getting the head of cabbage to release its leaves for me, but the praise from my hubby & kids made it all worth it :-)

Cranberry Pumpkin Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2013
Excellent! Great flavor, wonderful smell, and looked great with all the cranberries being cut in half. I gave it four stars because it is a bit of work cutting all the cranberries in half, and I prefer a bit more spice in my muffins (I'll be adding more next go 'round)

Grilled Venison Backstrap

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2013
This was amazing! Made it for football Sunday and all the guys enjoyed it -- Even asked if they could take some home with them. I made some as the recipe stated (with apple cider and smokey barbecue sauce) and half with a bottled bourbon marinade, and both were stellar. This seems like a recipe you can't go wrong on, except for everyone using apple cider vinegar instead of just plain ol apple cider :)

Banana Chip Muffins I

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2013
My "cupcakes" did not look as pretty as the picture for these, and the taste was not exactly what I was hoping for. I do admit I've never quite been a fan of banana and chocolate together, and the actual muffin part is good, it's just not much different than what I'm used to, and the chocolate chips killed it for me

Apple Pie Bars from PHILADELPHIA®

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2013
Delicious and totally worth the small amount of effort. I had to use another 1/2 tablespoon of water in the glaze to make it usable, and I used a 10x13 instead of what the recipe calls for. It turned out "too good" as my guy says.

Left-Over Turkey Pot Pie

Reviewed: May 1, 2013
One lesson learned, and my only advice: deep dish pie shells are definitely what this recipe calls for. I doubled this recipe (I'm feeding 9!) and subbed veggies according to what I had, and because I used two regular pie shells, there was way more crust than filling, and I had to use a third pie dish to bake off what was remaining. In all honesty, this would probably be even better if there were no bottom crust. However, it was still enjoyable and the entire family, sans the pickiest one, ate it. There was a point where I encountered skepticism, as the smells from all the seasonings I'd used in my gravy and the smells that were called for in this dish almost fought each other, but the pot pie was delicious and will be repeated. Thank you for the recipe Linda!

Cheddar-Thyme Flaky Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2013
I mix it up and put rosemary in these instead of thyme sometimes... These are my go-to biscuits now -- they only take a few minutes to mix up, making them take about the same amount of time as the "canned" biscuits -- but these taste and smell and LOOK so much better! My guy does not like the green herbs in them, so I'm going to try adding some garlic powder to the next batch instead, YUM!! Great base recipe!

Yummy Sweet Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2013
OMG this is the BEST sweet potato casserole I have ever had. I never cared for sweet potatos and always turned my nose at sweet potato casseroles, but I had some in the veggie drawer and decided to try to find something to do with them -- this recipe is amazing! It is so addictive, too :) And something you can feel great about eating!

Classic Texas Caviar

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2013
This was WAY better than I thought it was going to be (I'm not a fan of legumes in general) -- took it to a New Year's party, followed the recipe exactly, and it was gone by midnight. If making for a smaller bunch, I would cut the recipe in half -- it doesn't seem to keep well in the refrigerator (becomes runny).

G-ma's Rice

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2012
I didn't really care for this... It had an odd flavor that I didn't associate with Mexican rice. Try the Spanish Rice II recipe on this site instead, which is what I'm used to when making tomato-y rice.

Classic Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2012
First time making my own cinnamon rolls and I am IMPRESSED! However, this made a LOT of rolls, 24, and they were so large they had to be eaten half at a time. In the future, I would make the entire recipe, but freeze half of them, and make the rolls smaller. The frosting/icing was delicious, but I would probably look for another one next time I make this... I'd try cream cheese. Also, no one could believe these had mashed potatos in them :) but I think it made a difference. I definitely recommend trying this recipe -- store bought/in a can rolls simply do not compare!!!

Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2012
This is a very dense, but very good, white bread. It held up to dipping into clam chowder and was still light enough for my guy's sandwiches. LOVED it, and so did the kids! Not only did it TASTE good, but it felt great to make fresh bread from scratch -- I should have tried using some of this for french toast, but by the time I thought of it I didn't have enough for our brood :)

Pork Chop Suey

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2012
I followed the recipe, sans the dry sherry because I didn't have any on hand. I found the flavor to be lacking something... But it DID taste better than most of the attempts I've made before I found this recipe. I *might* play around with this some more until I find what works for us... Overall, it's worth the effort, but I don't know how often I'm actually going to make it.

General Robert E. Lee Cake II

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2012
For the actual cake: I followed the recipe exactly, except I didn't have lemon zest... I found the cake to be dry and lacking the lemon flavor I was looking for. Why is it so difficult to find a good lemon cake recipe?! I did not try the frosting so cannot rate that, I did a lemon chocolate and was disappointed in the cake's outcome.

Angel Fruit Trifle

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
This was AMAZING and oh so perfect on a 100 degree Maryland day!! I used fresh blueberries, omitted the peaches, and made my own angel food cake (using a Southern Living "Blue Ribbon Angel Food Cake" recipe) and fresh, homemade whipped cream. TO DIE FOR!!!

Swedish Meatballs (Svenska Kottbullar)

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2012
These were awesome and actually tasted like swedish meatballs! The only problem I had was this: the sour cream, when added, didn't completely integrate with the rest of the gravy. I had little white specs in my gravy. It still tasted delicious and I'm not particularly picky about presentation for family meals, so I'll definitely make this again. It was truly excellent over some boiled rice :)

Detroit Hot Honey Wings

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
I tried these wings two ways - in the oven and on the grill. Frankly, the grilled version left something to be desired, and the flavor was almost non-existent. In the oven, the wings tasted wonderful and the sauce stayed on without burning. Also, I would recommend following others' suggestions to marinate the wings in the honey and hot sauce for a day before cooking.

Meatball Nirvana

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2012
These meatballs were just okay -- the final product tasted more like bread crumbs than meat, and the little bit of spice put into the meatballs did nothing to enhance the flavor. I won't be making these again...

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Reviewed: May 18, 2012
A perfect mix of sweet and tangy, this bread is a definite hit! I have come to crave it, especially during winter months. I used fresh cranberries, and would suggest chopping them before putting them in the batter (they taste better mingled in with the taste of the bread, rather than getting a bite full of cranberry).
