Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2008
I had such high expectations about this recipe, and it was really bad. I followed the directions exactly, just added a bag of frozen veggies to the mix, and it was bland and had no flavor. The next day was not good either. Sorry. :(

Flatlander Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2008
I think this is the best chili recipe on this site. I made as directed the first time, and the second time I opted to add garlic, diced tomatoes, and beef stew meat. I didn't need all of the tomato juice, and substituted some of the juice with beer. Put in a slow cooker on low for 4 hours to let flavors mix, and you have one heck of a chili!! YUM!!!

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2007
This was good chili, not great chili. I used ground beef as well as chuck steak, cooked it together, then threw everything into my slow cooker, cooked it for 2 days, and it was ok. It was very filling, but isn't that ultimate chili recipe I'm looking for. Other than adding the steak, I followed the other ingredients as written.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2006
This was great! I didn't make the roux, since I was too hungry to wait. I added a jar of sauerkraut, and it was perfect!! I also made my own broth by boiling the ham bone from Christmas dinner for an hour or so. I used to make this when I was a kid. Thanks for the recipe, as it brought back many memories.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
Wow, was this good! I put garlic and minced onions in the butter, then let that sit for a couple hours before I added to turkey. Then let turkey sit with that in fridge for couple hours. I used broth instead of water. My stupid thermometer didn't work, so my 14lb turkey baked for 5 hours, but my turkey was still so juicy and flavorful. If I would have cooked like I normally do, my turkey would have been dry as the desert. Thanks for such a great idea!

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
I made this for Thanksgiving. I toasted only wheat bread, did not add butter, and did not add turkey liver (ewww.) I put some in the turkey (used Michiganer turkey recipe from this website) and some in an 8x8 pan. I took some of the liquid from the turkey and added to the stuffing in the pan. I also used sage sausage. It was really good. Next time won't use cranberries: it wasn't something the family cared for. But the flavor was great.

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2006
I made this for Thanksgiving this year. The only change I made was to add kahlua instead of burbon. I wish I would have bought deep dish pie crust because the filling was too much for just one regular pie crust so I ended up with two. I thought the pie was interesting, not quite what I would call a pecan pie, but it was good anyway.

Baked Omelet Squares

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2006
My husband really loves this dish! I made mine with cheese, ground hot sausage, mushrooms, egg mixture, and some pepperjack cheese squares on top. He divides them into equal portions and eats them for snack at all times of the day!! Great for low carb diets!!

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2006
This was very good! And so easy and quick to make! I pounded my chicken breasts so they would cook evenly, and eliminated the bread crumbs, since I'm on the no carb diet. Once the chicken was done, I used the leftover oil and garlic to sautee mushrooms in . Yum!!

Grilled Halibut with Cilantro Garlic Butter

Reviewed: May 9, 2006
This was a great meal idea! I used mahi mahi, and made the butter while the fish was on the grill. I will try some different spices, as it could have used some more flavoring, but was an easy to make and quick meal with great taste!

Chicken Enchiladas I

Reviewed: May 1, 2006
I thought these were wonderful! I added fresh chopped cilantro and made the enchilada sauce by sara on this website instead of the taco sauce to cover with. I also used low fat sour cream and just a couple spoonfuls. I also boiled the chicken to shred rather than cube. The family liked it, however hubby still likes chicken enchiladas ii by steph better.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2006
I thought this recipe was great, it had lots of different flavors: sweet from sugar, sour from soy sauce, and spicy from the garlic. My husband doesn't like anything that has flavor, and complained about it being too sweet. I will make this again, but will cut down on the sugar.

Garlic Crab Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2006
I made this for a birthday party, and it was the only dip that sat untouched. It was bland and had no flavor. I definitely will not make this again.

Favorite Banana Blueberry Quick Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2006
I made this as written, though I used whole wheat flour instead of white. I'm trying to get my kids to eat stuff that is good in taste, yet somewhat healthy for them. They thought this bread was ok, but 3/4 of the loaf is still on the counter.

Cabbage Roll Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2006
I made this recipe just as written, though I just added more seasonings. After cooking for an hour and a half, the cabbage still wasn't cooked, and the kids refused to eat. I chopped in thin pieces, so I don't know what went wrong.

Easy Cocoa Ice Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2006
I've never made ice cream you have to cook before, and learned some key points from this recipe. I got impatient and didn't let it cool down completely before putting in the ice cream maker, therefore it took forever to freeze. I added just a tablespoon of kahlua instead of vanilla, and added a couple spoonfuls of peanut butter to the chocolate while it was cooking on the stove. When it finally froze, it was very good!!!

Berry Burst Sorbet

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2006
This is so good! I used 3/4 cup regular white sugar with the 1 cup water and a bag of frozen mixed fruit with the heavy cream and it was so good. It froze perfectly in the freezer after I took it out of the ice cream maker. Will make this a lot over the summer!!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2006
I made these exactly as written, and they were excellent. I did double the frosting mix, per other reviews, and ended up with over half of it leftover, so I don't think the frosting needs doubled. I melted the butter and mixed it with the brown sugar/cinnamon/nuts mixture, and it was easier to spread around. I cooked it at 350* for 30 minutes. The neighbor kids and my kids devoured them!!!
