Carla's Fruit Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
As others suggested, I used 8 oz. of cream cheese, following the other ingredients as listed. It wasn't a huge hit with the family but I definitely liked it.

Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2010
NOTE: I have a newer Kenmore Elite oven and I had to cut the temp down to 350 with a bake time of 10 mins. It is a convection oven BUT I did not use the convection setting and as written the temp and time is way off, atleast for my oven. I can understand why several reviewers have said the flavor was mild/bland if they followed the recipe as written. After reading many (not all - I didn't have tons of time before two kids were due off the bus and ready for a snack) reviews, I decided if I was making banana cookies, they had better taste like banana so I opted for 4 medium sized ripe bananas. I did cut the baking powder to 1 tsp as many suggested and for a little extra sweetness, I added some (about 1 tbsp) cinnamon and sugar I had mixed up for breakfast toast. What resulted is a yummy moist sweet disc of heaven! My personal opinion is as long as they can stay moist - bring on the cake like, muffin like, bread like cookies! To note: this recipe was so fast and easy, simple yet great flavors - the best kind of recipe a busy wife and mother needs! Thanks to the author!

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2010
Oh HEAVEN! I honestly think I could have ate this whole dish. My favorite Asian dish is Spicy Szechuan Beef at Big Bowl and this sauce tasted exactly like the sauce on that dish. I'm thrilled to have found this and can't wait to add more and more to this base recipe to suit my current cravings. YUMMY!

Army SOS Creamed Ground Beef

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2008
We LOVED this! After reading several reviews saying that the dish was low in taste I opted to use three bullion cubes instead of one and the taste was perfect. We served it over bow-tie noodles but I am thinking it'll be just as great, if not better, served over biscuits or toast. Yummy!

Buttermilk Cinnamon Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
This is a good, not great tasting bread. I did as other reviewers had posted and added a 1/2 tsp of vanilla to the oil/sugar/buttermilk/egg mixture (I halved the recipe for only 1 loaf). I had also followed another reviewers suggestion and didn't use all of the cinnamon & sugar mixture and after tasting the bread I wish I had used as much as the recipe had called for. I will make it again but in the meantime I'll be searching for add-ins to give it a little more taste and moisture.

Crab Brunch Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2008
I was looking for a crab dish to serve with a steak dinner and this was perfect! I followed the recipe as listed and it turned out absolutely wonderful. It was such a great compliment to the ribeyes I grilled. To add to the greatness of this dish, the leftovers reheated beautifully for a quick breakfast the next morning. Highly recommended.

Taco Bake II

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2008
HUGE hit with the family. I had it in my head to make this for supper when I realized I didn't have a taco seasoning packet, nor did I have a can of diced tomatoes with green chiles. I opted to use spices from my rack: cayenne pepper, seasoning salt, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano and italian seasoning. I followed other reviewers suggestions and used salsa instead of the canned tomatoes. Due to many reviews saying the dish comes out dry, I used 1 1/3 cup salsa and 2/3 cup water in addition to the 1 cup sour cream. I also added some diced black olives to the meat mixture before layering. A wonderfully yummy, mildy spicy enchilada tasting casserole. I have no doubt that if I had followed the recipe to a T (had I had the right ingredients) it would have turned out just as great.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: May 29, 2008
4 1/2 stars as written, 5 stars with changes (my taste buds opinions only). Easy recipe, great taste after two additions: 1 tsp cinnamon to flour mixture and 1 tsp pure vanilla extract to the sugar/egg mixture. I also followed another reviewers suggestion and went with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup white sugar instead of 3/4 white sugar. Baked for 18 minutes exactly in convection oven on cake setting. Very moist, better at room temperature versus straight from the oven, in my opinion.

Zesty Coleslaw

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2008
Being on Weight Watchers, I used Low-Fat Hellman's and Light Miracle Whip, keeping all other ingredients as listed. This is FANTASTIC! I wasn't sure if I would like the dill weed but it definitely gives it a distinct flavor that is just perfect! Although the kids weren't crazy about it, my boyfriend and I will be enjoying this on a normal rotation. Thank you!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2007
Great taste - bakes up nice and fluffy. Definitely a must to chill the dough overnight for ease of using cookie cutters. I actually chilled in fridge for three days because I ran out of time to make and the end result was still great.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2007
I followed Jillybeans suggestions as almost everyone else has done and was very pleased with this dish. My boyfriend doesn't care for mushrooms that much so I did not add the canned mushrooms but did double the sauce (Golden Mushroom soup) and he still loved it. I used frozen egg noodles instead of packaged and I think that made the dish that much more appealing. Plenty of left overs sealed and patiently waiting in the freezer for a cold wintery Minnesota night!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2007
YUMMY! I can't believe how creamy, yet firm this cheesecake is. I started mixing my ingredients and realized I didn't have any eggs so I had to leave the cream cheese and sugar mixture sit at room tempature for about a hour. The finished product still tasted amazing! I think it would be very hard to mess this one up. Word of caution - make darn sure ALL of your ingredients are at room temp. I put the vanilla extract directly from fridge to mixing bowl and it formed some small pods in the filling. It didn't hurt the taste at all and actually made for a neat inner appearance. Lucky, I guess! I'm very thankful I chose this recipe. Delicious!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2007
I really really really tried hard to like this cookie. I am rating the recipe as it is written. I made a 1/2 batch following the recipe to a T and I have to say that I felt there was little taste to the finished product. I'm sure if I was to add the additional vanilla extract and salt the taste would improve, however I am looking for a recipe I can follow without having to remember how I altered it. I am going to keep looking.............

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
WOW WOW WOW YUMMY!!! I have only made a turkey once before using my mom's method and it was nothing to rave about but this.... THIS is "THE ONE". The color, the taste, the gravy the drippings made - amazing! I stuffed the bird before roasting and the flavor of the butter was incredible throughout the bird and stuffing. Again - YUM!

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Perfect taste - I like the idea that there are no cloves in this pie. Will use again and again and again. The baking time was off but I'm sure it's the differences in ovens. Thanks!

Pumpkin Layer Cheesecake

I loved everything about this cheesecake. I may make one change when I make it again and that would be to make the basic cheesecake layer a tad bit more than the pumpkin layer. Hey - I love plain cheesecake! Yummy recipe!

Flatlander Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2007
Yummy, Nummy and all that jazz! This was a little more work than I am used to when making chili but DEFINITELY worth it! One small addition for my family - chopped jalapenos - we like it HOT! This was ever better the second day, reheated. The flavors just blossomed. Thanks for the greatest chili recipe I've found yet!
