Delicious Apple Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
I would double or triple the recipe to make it worth the effort, didn't yield a lot, but it was yummy.

Real Hummus

The flavor was a bit sour or bitter... and it came out too runny.

Schweinebraten Pork Roast

WOW. How simple and delicious. One major problem with the recipes though... you forgot to mention what a delicious gravy the drippings make! I will say I doubled the amount of rub I used, but this could be a personal preference thing (but other might want to try it). I'm also curious about trying apple cider instead of beer. Might be good, and make for an interesting gravy. One thing... it took forever to bake and I had to add a little more beer... but I think I my have done something wrong. Not sure what happened there.

Chicken Souvlaki Gyro Style

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
OK the cucumber sauce made it all worth it, but the chicken definitely was not worth the effort. Don't get me wrong, it tasted... nice. but good ol' salt and pepper would have done it better. It didn't reapply taste right for gyros to me. But maybe I just don't know any better. I usually used garam masala, curry, turmeric, cumin rubbed on it and I think I will stick with that next time.

Butterscotch Bread Pudding

Is it supposed to taste like that? I don't know why people liked this recipe... the only thing that saved it was that I threw in raisins, thank heavens.

Broccoli Salad I

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
Everyone loved this, I made a double batch for thankgiving and it all went! The recipe is spot on. I only changed one thing, even though I doubled the batch I did not have enough bacon to double that, but it still had plenty. So maybe if you want to half the bacon it would be fine, though there'd be nothing against leaving it as is.

Cranberry Sauce I

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
It was ok. I made one batch per this recipes, exactly. If you want a no-brainer that you can whip up every year by memory, by all means you can't go wrong with this one. But I made a second batch following some poster's suggestions, and it was far supperior. I'm going to post that recipe myself, because I don't think people should rate this one five stars when they're making something very different.

Good, but not great. I would definitely double the seasoning and add a lot more salt and pepper.

Creole Shrimp and Pasta Meuniere

Pretty good. As it was I thought it was a bit plain, but still good so I put four stars. Added chili powder and a lotta cayenne to my own.

Cajun Crawfish and Shrimp Etouffe

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2010
Not so hard once you give it a try! Who knew heating oil and butter had such astounding effects? I've been intimidated to try a Roux, but using common sense and a whisk it was no problem! (I'm going to try this in place of butter in a butter sauce I make). I used to catch crawfish as a lil girl and watch them swim... this had me google-ing fishing laws and traps! Since I had no crawfish I used shrimps and scallops and it was awesome!

Some of the best cornbread I've had that didn't have cake mix in it... though it is not a low-cal option!

Shrimp Macque Choux

This was awsome, though I actually liked the maque choux just by itself before all the cream and pasta... though the end result also was delicious

Southern-Style Buttermilk Fried Chicken

I think it would have been better with just salt and pepper to flavor the batter. The onion powder gave it an odd flavor that I wasn't expecting.

Wayyyyyyy too salty.... I'm not going to rate this because obviously I did something wrong, but reviewed the recipe and can't find where I went wrong. Mine was saltier than salt itself, absolutely inedible.
