French Pastry Pie Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
This is the recipe I always use for my pies; the added sweetness is a must for me. It has excellent taste and flavor once cooked. It won't give you any trouble rolling it out for a basic crust...but it's a nightmare if you're planning something ornate. NEVER attempt a lattice top with this crust--I learned the hard way. **Update** I just made this again for an apple pie today, and finally tried rolling it between two pieces of wax paper. Worked great! So much easier than the usual rolling/transfer.

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
These were just okay. I think using baking chocolate as opposed to powder would would have been a smarter decision...as it is, there is just something off in the taste. I personally wasn't a fan, but my family and boyfriend LOVED them and keep asking for more -- hence the 4 stars.

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
I usually love green beans, so I don't know what exactly was amiss. I was not fond of the cracker/cheese topping, either. My mom thought it was okay. Maybe I will try a more classic variant of this.

Chocolate Pecan Pie III

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
I'm not really a pecan pie fan, but even I liked this and my family LOVED it at Thanksgiving. I left the pecans whole and sprinkled 1/2 cup of chocolate chips along with the top pecan layer for extra chocolatey flavor. I suggest prebaking the crust for a few minutes, because the liquid filling seeped in and made the bottom soggy. I will make this again!

Bev's Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
This was kind of a disaster. The meringue did not work out at all...it seemed perfectly browned on the outside but it soon started to weep after I took it out, then promptly deflated. But even after taking off the meringue, the chocolate pie itself wasn't good either...it was like pudding in a pie shell, and not at all worth the effort. I will never make this again.

Satiny Chocolate Glaze

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
This glaze has such great flavor. I poured it over the "Too Much Chocolate Cake" on this site and it added a wonderful element to it. I would recommend the pairing!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
This pie is excellent. I always use half Gala and half Granny Smith apples for a balance of sweet and tartness. I also add 1 tsp. of cinnamon (apple pie without seems strange). I make this with the "French Pastry Crust" on this site, and always eggwash and prebake the crust for 10 minutes so it doesn't become soggy from the filling. Amazing pie!

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
I made this as a birthday cake with the "Satiny Chocolate Glaze" recipe off this site. It was an amazing combination; everyone loved it, there was a battle over the last slice, and I've already had requests to make another!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
It's been said enough, but this meatloaf recipe is AMAZING! I've made it twice already, it's easy, and I love the flavor of the brown sugar ketchup at the bottom.

Chicken Enchiladas I

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2007
I made this the day after Thanksgiving, using turkey to get rid of the leftovers. There was more than enough to make at least 10 enchiladas, and they were absolutely perfect! I look forward to making these again.

These are so good! The lime chicken is flavored to perfection. Some fresh guacamole makes them even better. Delicious!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2007
I think these are like brownies in cookie form. Absolutely delicious! The walnuts are a must. I made these for a party and the entire batch was almost devoured. The best part is that the few I took home stayed perfectly soft till the next day.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2007
These are the perfect chocolate chip cookie! I had instant chocolate pudding on hand and it added extra chocolatey flavor. Completely delicious. These cookies don't spread as much as most of my other recipes, so it helped to use heaping spoonfuls, round them and then press them a bit with my palm. The pudding works wonders and kept them soft even after they cooled. I can't wait to make these again!

Gourmet Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2007
I thought this was okay. I used well over a cup of tomatoes and still thought it lacked the tomato flavor. Perhaps pizza sauce, and not chopped tomatoes, is the way to go here. I ended up eating most of this as leftovers; my family actually resorted to eating salad after they had tried this. Not bad, but not worth the rave reviews either.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2007
This is the best scone recipe I've come across. I made them once with chocolate chips and again with dried cherries and both were great. The only thing I altered was to brush the tops with egg whites and dust them with a cinnamon-sugar mixture (2 tablespoons sugar to 1 teaspoon cinnamon).

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2007
This recipe was amazing, even with my few minor substitutions. I used all real butter as opposed to shortening. I had no rolled oats or cloves on hand, so I used old-fashioned oats and added extra cinnamon. The cookies came out absolutely perfect! They are also excellent with chocolate chips!

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2007
Even having added all the cumin and chili powder, I found these to be very bland. I cooked them for the recommended 10 minutes on each side; the outsides were dry and the insides were mushy. I gave the recipe two stars because I found them just edible, but I can't say my family agreed on that matter.

Magic Peanut Butter Middles

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2007
These cookies were incredibly labor-intensive. The cookie dough was dry and difficult to shape around the peanut butter filling. The cookies themselves were delicious, but they had taken me so long to make that I almost flinched at the rate at which they disappeared. Excellent recipe, but I'm still debating whether it's fully worth all the effort.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2007
I thought I would give these a try after my first batch came out horrible several months ago. The batter came out to a much better consistency this time and cooked to a beautiful golden brown. I'm not really a pancake person, but I took a bite of one and agree with some reviewers that it seemed too salty. Still, I'll go with the popular opinion and 5 stars, because my family and boyfriend absolutely loved these.
