Sour Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2009
This was a very tasty and easy frosting. It mixed up really well and was easy to spread. It was a soft frosting, but still spreadable. I made it one evening and used it the next morning on top of cinnamon rolls. Very good combination. I had some left over and later used it on a chocolate cake. It was okay on the cake, better on the cinnamon rolls.

Quick Crisp Snack Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
I prefer these to the kind with marshmallows. They are easy to make and they have always held togther well for me, and they don't have a bunch of extra sugar in them. They're also good with cheerios. Recently I had some milk chocolate bars and so put a layer of chocolate in the middle, mmm that was yummy.

Vanilla Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2008
I really like this pumpkin pie. I don't like all the spices in more "traditional" recipes so this was just what I was looking for.

Vinegar Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
I really liked this. I was actually looking for an "oatmeal" pie but couldn't find quite the right thing. A lot of them had corn syrup which I didn't have and the one's that didn't usually had coconut which I also didn't have. I was going to try a different pecan pie recipe that didn't have corn syrup and just substitute oatmeal for the pecans but then I saw this one and was curious about it because it has less sugar in it. So I tried it with oatmeal instead of pecans and it came out really good. It had a nice mildly sweet flavor and the oats were nice and chewey. I'll probably make it again.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2009
This was a great chocolate cake. I didn't have any butter, that's why I picked this one. It was easy to make and tasted great, very chocolatey. After you add the boiling water it's very thin and runny, but that's okay it still works. It wsn't fluffy like a store bought cake, but it was very moist. My husband had a cake like this growing up and he thought this recipe was very good. I made 1/2 the recipe and baked it in an 8-inch square pan, it worked fine.

Soft, but I thought they had too much garlic.

The Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2009
I thought this was a pretty good cookie. I don't care much for almond extract in chocolate chip cookies so I left that out. I do think it's important to use a good oil. I had plain old vegetable oil on hand and that had a distinct flavor that wasn't that great. I'd like to try it with fresh canola oil or maybe peanut oil. The second day was the best day for these cookies. The flavor of the oil had mellowed out and the cookies were really chewey. After that they got kind of dry.

Mom's Ginger Snaps

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
At first when they were still warm they seemed kind of oily, but after they cooled all the way I thought they were pretty good. I overbaked them a bit so they got a little hard after a couple days, but still tasted good. I left out the cloves since I don't care much for them and I just used a couple of spoons and droped the dough on the cookie sheets.

Peanut Butter Pie VIII

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2009
This was good. I didn't do the meringue, I just put the 3 eggs, whole, into the custard. The first time I ate it, it was still a bit warm and I cut the slices too big, and I thought it was okay, but after being refrigerated overnight it was better. You don't want to keep it too long though because it gets a bit soggy. I'll probably make this again sometime.

No Fail Pie Crust III

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2009
I decided on a four because in the end it did come out allright. I had a hard time mixing in the water, I had really wet clumps and then dry crumbly parts. Maybe I'm just not very good at making pie crusts. It really did come out okay in the end so I may come back to this one after I try a few others.

Oil Pie Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2009
This was better than another oil pie crust that I tried. I liked the taste and it mixed together very easily. It was a little difficult to roll out. Next time I might try rolling it between sheets of plastic wrap. But, in the end it worked and it wasn't too tough or too crumbly so I'll keep using this. I kind of like using the oil since it's healthier and less expensive.

Thick Cut-Outs

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2008
Overall I thought this was a pretty average sugar cookie recipe. The dough mixed well and it was easy to roll out. I refrigerated it for about two hours and it was still soft but not very sticky. The cookies baked well and had a nice texture but they didn't have much flavor. The icing didn't have much flavor either, just a little sweet. This wasn't a bad cookie, just not what I was hoping for. I think I'll keep looking. 12/18 These actually tasted better the second (now third) day. They're still soft and kind of chewey rather than cakey so this is a pretty good recipe. I might stick with these...I'm not sure.

Fruit 'N' Nut Granola

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2010
I tried this recipe because I didn't have any honey. I thought it turned out quite good. I didn't have any nuts or dried fruit either. I used butter instead of vegetable oil. The taste was good and mine came out crunchy. It didn't really make clusters. I will likely use this recipe again.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2010
My kids ate it so that gives it a star. My husband liked it too. I thought it was good although the gravy could use a little something. Maybe I just need to use better beef broth.

An interesting way to serve spaghetti. I thought it was good, although I would prefer more sauce and less noodles.

Mom's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2009
This didn't work out very well for me. It had a nice buttery flavor but was very very tough. You really had to work to cut it with your fork. I had a hard time mixing in the water too. Maybe it's my fault, maybe I overworked it. I'm not that great at making pie crusts.

Four Egg Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
Didn't turn out. It burnt on the outside and the inside looked underdone. It was incredibly dense. Didn't enjoy it at all. One start for having a good flavor (I used all butter).
