Whole Wheat Pumpkin-Applesauce Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2014
To be fair, I like the base of this recipe....but I LOVE these muffins with the changes I made. I used only 1C of the flour, and added 3/4C of this ancient grain pancake mix I like and 1 scoop of cinnamon protein powder (take THAT, kiddos! bwahahaa). I bake with Splenda and the Splenda brown sugar blend to cut calories, and I omitted the oil altogether and upped the applesauce a bit. I also just used plain skim milk as vinegar + milk sounded disgusting to me. My muffins were moist and a little bit dense, but in a good way. Delicious straight out of the oven with a little butter. My husband said he would add choco chips but I think they were great as is. Definitely worth a try.

Butter Rich Spritz Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2013
I normally am not a fan of spritz cookies because they are so dry and often tasteless, but that is not the case with this recipe! I made a batch for my neighbor and seriously wished I had not given them so many. The only thing I changed was using butter flavor instead of almond (which I didn't have on hand), which I think really enhanced the buttery goodness. The cookies came out moist and soft after about 10 mins in my oven. Next time I will definitely make a double batch!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2012
Delicious! Mine did not turn out puffy and crackled, but the taste is awesome. My eggs may have been too big, so the dough was really gooey and they didn't puff up much...but I will be making these again soon and will try smaller eggs (my baking soda was fine and the cream of tartar was new). Definitely worth making (and sending to loved ones overseas!)

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2011
WOW! This is the recipe I have been looking for! Delicious, chewy cookies even the day after baking (don't think they will last beyond today lol). I made regular size cookies and it made about 2 dozen. This is now my go-to choc chip cookie recipe! Didn't change a thing (although I did let the eggs get to room temp as others suggested, don't know if this is really necessary or not).

Gingerbread Boys

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2010
This was my first time making gingerbread and I found this recipe to be a good starting point. I wanted a more traditional taste, so I used 2tbs molasses and no orange zest and also omitted the cloves because I didn't have any. It might be my oven, but I baked my first batch for 9 minutes at 375 and the burnt BAD...so I did the rest fr about 6 minutes and they turned out firm but still a little chewy. Good spicy (spice-y?) flavor, not terribly strong so I may add more ginger and cinnamon next time. Or maybe just go buy the cloves lol...This recipe made 36 large star shaped cookies so I'm not convinced it would make SIXTY men unless they were very tiny...but overall this is a great starter recipe.

Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2010
Pretty good recipe, although I used 2 packages of cream cheese and added 1/2c of white sugar because I like my cheesecakes sweet and not tangy. I could still taste the pumpkin, but it was a light, sweet taste and not the overwhelming bland pumpkin taste I've had using other recipes. I used the pre-made graham crusts and it made 2 pies. Everyone who tried it said it was delicious so I would definitely use this recipe again.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2010
This was my first time cooking a turkey, and it turned out wonderfully! The skin got nice and brown and the meat was tender and moist. I added a few more spices but it still didnt have the punch I was looking for so I will try to improve on this next year. Overall though this is a great recipe, very simple yet tasty.

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies III

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
Pretty good recipe on its own! The cookies came out a little puffier than I would have liked, but the taste was great even in the parts of the cookie that didn't have nuts or choc chips. I didn't add the almond extract because I didn't have any on hand, but I think they still came out really well and look gorgeous. I would say that you might want to refrigerate the dough for a few mins before dropping onto cookie sheet though; my first batch spread BAD and a few melted into each other. I stuck the dough in the fridge while I waited to do the next batch and it worked out a lot better.

Four Cheese Macaroni

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
DELICIOUS!! I made the recipe exactly as written (minus the eggs) and it was awesome. My guests loved it and it was still yummy reheated the next day. I forgot the eggs, but I don't think it affected it at all. Excellent recipe, very cheesy and creamy. One tip: use a LARGE saucepan or dutch oven to boil mac and mix ingredients and use a 3qt or larger casserole dish to bake...I made quite a mess using a medium saucepan and 2.75qt dish :)

Triple-Layer Pumpkin Spice Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
This is delicious! The best part is that there's no baking required, so it's quick and easy to throw together on a whim. It's very light (unlike pumpkin pie). Mine didn't come out quite a pretty as the picture, but the taste was awesome and I will definitely be making this for Thanksgiving.

Gooey Butter Cake III

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
This recipe is awesome as is. I had never heard of this, but my big Texan husband told me he wanted some and I'm glad he told me about it. It is VERY sweet but oh-so-addicting and everyone that tried it loved it. I had a problem with the middle being very wet and gooey and the outside edges being a little more done, so I'm going to try making mini-cupcake size ones and see if it turns out better. Overall, GREAT recipe for home or potluck.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
I usually don't review on here, but this was so good that I just had to. I've made it with and without the beer and both ways turn out delicious, especially when topped with cheese and crumbled up chips. I've made it twice now and the second time I used a can of Mexicorn and it added a lot of flavor (I had omitted corn the first time). I definitely recommend this!
