Joy's Prizewinning Trifle

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2008
This recipe looked easy and pretty. In fact, I thought it would be prettier that it tasted. It's pudding and cake, right? Boy, was I wrong! It was soooo delicious. Everyone raved over this. When you make this recipe, please adhere to the instructions of not preparing the pudding before mixing it with the sour cream. The thick texture is really good. The one change I made was to add 4 ounces of cream cheese to the pudding mixture. It's just my preference. Gonna make this one again for sure!

Sweet Potato Casserole I

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2008
The sweet potato part was really delicious. And true to the other reviews, some that don't ordinarily like sweet potatoes enjoyed this. I did find the crumb topping texture to be unappealing, though. I expected it to be more like that of a crumb pie topping. Maybe I had the wrong perception, but if I make this again, I'll probably put about 5 tablespoons butter in the topping mixture instead of 3.

Homemade Pancake Syrup

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
I decided to use this recipe because I'd run out of store bought syrup. My expectations weren't high, but the syrup actually turned out really good. I did add about 1/4 teaspoon salt to balance out the sweet. My only recommendation is that if I make it again I'll use 1 cup of water instead of 3/4 cup. Once it cooled it was too thick.

Irresistible Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2007
I have a pie crust recipe that I like, so I just made the filling. It turned out very good. Did what was suggested by other reviewers and added vanilla, cinnamon, and flour to the mixture. A friend of mine said it was the best pecan pie she'd ever eaten. My husband, on the other hand would've preferred more goo in the middle. I guess it's just all in what ya like. :-}

Spicy Slow Cooker Black Bean Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2007
Very good soup, but I agree that some of the beans must be pureed to thicken it up. Didn't find it to be at all too spicy. Very good flavor. :-}

Scalloped Potatoes II

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2007
I took these potatoes to a get together. They were gone in minutes, and they were delicious. I wish that I had read the reviews before I made this recipe though. Next time I'll definately take the advice of others and mix the flour and milk together first. It was a little messy making sure the flour was moistened after it'd already been layered.

Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2007
Made this for a cook out side dish. Great coleslaw. I didn't have white wine vinegar or buttermilk so I used balsamic vinegar and regular milk. It was still delicious and everyone loved it.

Blueberry Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2007
I liked this recipe ok. I took it to a family function where I'm known for my desserts. Unfortunately it didn't go over too well, and most of it came home with me. Maybe the cherry would've been a better choice.
