Fruit Dip II

It is so delicious. I am sitting here wondering how in the world orange juice and cool whip could improve it at all. And, it's so easy!

Slow Cooker Carolina BBQ

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2010
Without the liquid smoke...4 stars. With liquid smoke...5 stars all the way. I made 2 batches with the first following the recipe exactly and the second adding the liquid smoke. Only one Tbsp is needed. It is a delightful recipe. We live in VA...and my husband grew up in NC. This is dead on bbq. I will never use a different bbq recipe again. And, fyi, I didn't mind the smell in the house...and I have the most sensitive of noses. Perhaps it is because I enjoy the vinegar bbq so much? Yum!

Marshmallow Fondant

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
I made this as written the first time...ans it turned out great...though it ruined my hand mixer. (it smoked the little motor right up) My husband then bought me a KitchenAid...and it did the job. However, the second time around, I used marshmallow fluff. The results were nowhere near as nice. It was way stickier...and I needed a lot more sugar...and the taste wasn't as nice as a result. I will stick to the heating of mini-marshmallows from now on. (btw, I was making fondant flowers for a friend's wedding cupcakes with this recipe.)

Marinade for Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2010
Delicious! Saw it featured...and made it the same night. I didn't have parsley, wine vinegar, or lemons. I used balsamic vinegar and lime juice. Omitted the parsley. I pulled some frozen chicken tenders out of the freezer, put them right in the marinade...and left them in the fridge for the day. They were still a little frozen in the middle...but cooked up perfectly on the grill. The whole family loved it.

Elaine's Sweet and Tangy Loose Beef BBQ

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2010
YUM!!! This is so delicious. I often buy roasts because they are on sale, but I get stuck making them the same way all the time. This is such a good recipe. I scaled the recipe down to 10 servings, but after removing all the fat, there was only enough meat left to make about 6 good sandwiches. This is a perfect recipe for a laid back dinner with friends and beer. So good. This will go into my collection for sure.

Chocolate Chess Pie II

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
I had to alter it...but it is delicious. I added about 1 1/2 Tbsp cornstarch to the sugar/cocoa mixture, and had to bake it a full 1 1/2 hours. Perfect pie. When doing this it set up just right, and tasted heavenly.

Chocolate Cream Pie II

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2009
I wish I could give 4 1/2 stars to this recipe. I followed the directions exactly, but really should've heeded the advice of those that said to increase the corn starch to 4 Tbsp. It was such a soft set. The taste was extraordinary, but chocolate is just a bit too thin. 4 Tbsp next time, and it is a 5 star pie.

Dad's Pan-Fried Green Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
Better than delicious! I am always hesitant to try new recipes because my husband is rather picky. He LOVED them, as did I. He said he felt he should be eating at a Japanese steakhouse. The kids didn't love them as we did, and didn't finish there's...but my husband ate the remnants.

Mile-High Apple Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
The taste was awesome, and I loved how the juices didn't flow all over the place when the pie was cut. I will note that I used cornstarch in lieu of potato starch...and I also used 1 1/2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar for the lemon juice. (I didn't want to go to the store for the ingredients I didn't have) One major change I will make for next time is just blending the sugar mixture in with the apples before putting the apples in the crust. After it finished baking, there was stll a heavy layer of t atop the apples...otherwise still very delicious...and nice and gooey.

Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2009
I thought my other pie crust recipe was good...this will now be my go to pie crust. I imagine that it could be easily halved as the recipe makes a generous double crust. I actually liked having crust dough to spare. It seems like I am always scratching to get enough for my pies. And this crust tastes wonderful...I believe the sugar really adds so much. I used this for a lattice pie, Grandma Opal's Apple Pie from this site. It was delicious as well. Horray for the grandma's!

Ma Ma's Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
Very delicious. I iced these with butter cream, and sprinkled them with colored sugar. My husband loved these even more than our daughter...who has an insatiable sweet tooth. I didn't have butter flavored crisco, but added some butter flavoring, and they were great. *just a side note...If you don't want to buy self rising flour just for this recipe, you can substitute regular flour. For every cup of regular flour just add 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder. It is the same as self rising.

Colored Sugar

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2009
Awesome! This worked perfectly. I had spent so much money getting all the ingredients for a cupcake themed baby shower...and forgot the colored sugar...and I didn't want to go back out for that, or spend 5 bucks on it. I used some barely diluted color paste. Put 1/2 cup sugar in a Ziploc bag...added a couple color drops, Viola! Worked like a charm.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: May 12, 2009
Yum, yum, yum! This was such a great cake. My 3 year old daughter saw a cartoon drawing of an apple cake and wanted to make one. I chose this one, and we weren't disappointed. It was very delicious. We iced it with a cream cheese icing. It was so good that I kept picking at it. So I wouldn't eat the whole thing...I took it to my mother's house for her and my dad to eat it up!

Homemade Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2009
I wanted to make quesadillas, but didn't have tortillas, and didn't feel like running to the store for some. I 1/2ed this recipe because I didn't need very many. My husband LOVED them!!! And I was wondering how he'd react, as he's very picky. He thinks these really are so much better than store bought. I did substitute shortening for lard, and used hot water. The dough is nice and stretchy, and I could roll them very thin with a wooden roller. So delicious. I was surprised though, especially with my baking experience, that 1/2 the recipe made only 4, 8-10 inch tortillas. I guess 2 cups of flour doesn't go far in this recipe, but there really aren't any other ingredients so I guess that's it. So good though. You won't regret using this one.

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Awesome! Made as is, then again without the banana because my husband hates banana. Without banana, I added 1/2 cup applesauce to compensate. That was awesome too!

Bread Machine Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
Very good. I added garlic powder and dried basil, and actually cooked our pizza on the grill. I say it turned out pretty good considering it was my first attempt. If you want to try, make sure the grill is really hot, and the dough is rolled thin. Place the dough on the grill, once it's starting to bubble, flip it. Then very quickly add sauce and toppings. Pizza cook very fast, so be sure toppings are precooked. Delicious!
