Tammy's Tempting Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2008
I don't know if I did something wrong, but mine never firmed up to anything that could be shaped into a ball (although I still tried). The taste was great though, as a dip and I will definitely make it again. Next time if I have my heart set on making it a ball, I'll add more cheese and less mayo, I suppose. I rolled one "ball" in toasted pecans which was a nice compliment!

Lemon Snowflake Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
These were pretty good and very easy, except for the disastrous mess of handling the incredibly GOOPY batter in the powdered sugar - my goodness! I thought they were very sweet though and not as sour as I would have liked.

Fudge Truffle Cheesecake

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
This was great, but I didn't love the crust. I would try crushed Oreos for the crust instead of the vanilla wafers and cocoa next time. I made a large cheesecake and two mini muffin-sized "testers" to decide whether it was better served cold or at room temperature. For the testers, I used half an Oreo and they were much better than the big cake! In general, it was a wonderful and easy recipe, but VERY rich, serve extremely small pieces as others recommended. If I make this again it will be individual servings with Oreo crusts, yum!

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2008
This was wonderful! I used 2 packets of italian seasoning as some recommended but probably should have omitted the salt then. It was very salty but I rinsed the meat afterward and it was great! I added provolone, onions, and banana peppers as toppings, delicious!

Corn and Zucchini Melody

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2008
Yummmy! I have a hard time finding veggie dish recipes I like (I'm a meat and potatoes girl) but this one was wonderful! The veggies ended up with a more sauteed texture than crisp, but they were great. I used pepper jack cheese and added a bit of finely diced red pepper. I did cook the onion a bit longer to make it soft and added a bit of italian dressing as others suggested. This will be a regular use of the abundant zucchini from our family garden this year!

Barbecued Beef

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2008
Wow, this was wonderful! My parents said it was the best BBQ they ever had. I used a pork loin so it was nice and lean and I had no issues with greasiness. I added a bit more worcestershire and liquid smoke (maybe 50% more) than it calls for to make it a little more flavorful. Thanks for the recipe, this will be a regular meal in my house!

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
I followed the recipe exactly, and this was okay, but it definitely wasn't great. Maybe I didn't add enough salt and pepper or should have tried extra sharp cheddar...it just didn't have a lot of flavor.

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
This was very good but not my favorite version that I have tried. I made it twice - once as the recipe dictated and another time adding more mozzarella cheese and some diced jalapenos. The basil was a nice element of the dip. I would probably increase the artichokes by 50% also to add more texture if/when I make it again, but I'll probably try a different recipe first.

Bill's Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
Wow, I've never made sausage gravy before but this was excellent! I was pleased with the maple sausage, I thought it would be very sweet/dominant but it wasn't. Very easy to make also, I served over refrigerated butter layer biscuits from a can - they were a great complement. Thanks so much for the recipe, many future guests in my house will enjoy it!

Banana Split Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
This sounded a bit strange but I wanted to try it based on the reviews and it was wonderful!! I have made it twice (half batches in an 8x8 pan) - one time the crust stuck and one time it didn't, I'll probably grease the pan next time and add a bit more butter. The second time I added just a few dashes of salt to the crust which really brought out the other flavors. I also used fresh pineapple just because I had some - yum. I omitted the cherries because I find the flavor too dominant but would definitely try fresh strawberries as another reviewer suggested. This would work with pretty much any fruit!

Easy Creamy Peppercorn Chicken

Reviewed: May 30, 2008
Very good for such an easy recipe! I agree it made the house smell great. It would be easy to prepare the night before or in the morning and then stick it in the oven when you're ready. I served over mashed potatoes, which was a great complement, I think egg noodles would be really good as well.

Garlic Butter

Reviewed: May 28, 2008
This was okay. I make a lot of garlic butter so I thought I'd try this recipe based on the high rating - it was definitely not my favorite but wasn't bad. Something was overwhelming but I'm not exactly sure what. Other reviewers mentioned the garlic salt so I cut it back a bit, but found the balance of the italian seasoning and/or paprika a bit odd and dominating.

Sensational Steak Sandwich

Reviewed: May 22, 2008
This was truly sensational!!! I read the reviews and omitted the horseradish and mustard although I usually like both - I'm glad I did as I think it would have completely overwhelmed the taste. I used "Garlic Butter" from this site instead, which was great. The sauce was wonderful, I would dip other sandwiches in it as well when I'm done with the leftovers! ;) I made it as written but added a touch more worcestershire. I also misunderstood "sliced thinly" - I think it means shaved but I cut thin strips of sirloin. That ended up being great but I had to cook on high for 5-6 hours to make it tender. I definitely recommend the slow cooker to make the meat the right texture. Be sure to drain well as other reviews recommended to avoid sogginess. Delicious, I will make it again, frequently!!!

Jalapeno Appetizer Pancakes

Reviewed: May 22, 2008
These were unusual but really great! I added ranch dressing powder for a bit more flavor. I usually don't make pancakes and I was surprised at how quick and easy these were to make, I thought they would stick with the cheese but they didn't. I also added finely chopped ham to some but didn't feel it really added anything. A few tips I'll remember for next time, making them smaller (silver dollar size?) makes them more appetizer-y. They need to be cooked on a low setting or they burn easily. Also, I cooked some more thoroughly than others - I thought the less cooked ones (just tan on the outsides, not brown) were better, a little gooey inside like jalapeno popppers. I'll definitely make these again!

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Very good but with this amount of hot pepper sauce, it may be a bit overpowering. I agree with the recommendation to layer instead of mixing.

I consider myself a mashed potato connoiseur and these are great - hard to mess up! I have made the version with garlic/chive cream cheese as well and they turn out great.

Bacon Water Chestnut Rolls

Reviewed: May 20, 2008
I agree, these sound odd, but they were wonderful! I have made them for many parties and they are always among the first dishes to disappear. I followed other reviews and made the sauce with equal parts mayonnaise, chili sauce, and brown sugar. I also try to make the sauce at least several hours beforehand so it has time to blend together.
