Hamburger Buns

These were Great! My husband said the burgers were the best he ever had, and that the bun made all the difference. I used active dry yeast instead of instant because it's all I head. I let them rise for 35 minutes. They were perfect. I did press the dough balls flat onto the baking sheet to get a wider base. Proofing the yeast is just for peace of mind. Even with active dry yeast, if it's good it will work without proofing. It will rise faster if you do proof though. The dough was a little heavier than I thought it would be, and I think next time I'll go just shy of 6 cups for a fluffier finish. Thanks Cheer!

Sky High Yorkshire Pudding

Married to man with scottish parents, who was a missionary in London for two years, we had high hopes for this recipe. The inside of the puddings were fine. The outside burned terribly! I'll be looking elsewhere. Also, aren't traditional puddings more "cup" shaped? I was sad this didn't turn out.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

I flopped a few apples pies last year, and decided to brave one more before Christmas. This is the only pie I will make from now on! It's so good, even my husband who first refused to taste because he "doesn't really like apple pie" gave it a thumbs up and took an extra serving. The first one I made had a traditional crust. It was good. I made the mistake of not reducing the temp enough for the sauce, and it almost thickened like candy. It ended up forgiving very well. The second pie I used a crumb topping and it was perfect. I reduced the temp for simmering to low, and it was great. I also added cinnamon for a little extra kick. A tip for people who can't get apples to cook all the way through, slice them a little thinner. I used the thin slicer on my food processor, and both times it was perfect. I'm trying to find an excuse to make this again soon. Thank you Grandma Ople! Now my own grandkids (many years from now) will think their own grandma was always a wiz at apple pie.

Blushing Pears

It wasn't gross, but I just didn't understand the hype. My pears turned out a pale pink color, even after 25 minutes of simmering. My husband ate two, and then asked if we had anything else for a snack. I guess if you are a huge fan of pears, you might like it, but it was like eating a warm pear with whipped cream.

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Really good and fast. I cut the potatoes first and then boiled them for 10 minutes before adding them to the butter/seasoning mixture. Really yummy!
