Is It Good Enough? Yes.

How many days do you end with the thought 'tomorrow I will do better.'  I'm talking about trying to be that wife and mother that feels bad about never quite getting it right.  I mean, just look on Facebook or Pinterest and there are thousands of ways to show you how easy it is to have a 'company ready' home at all times, feed your children healthy home-cooked meals three times a day while being successful in business, working out that already rock hard body, AND always being ready to whip up a marvelous craft with your children or for your home.  Then you make sure your bills are always paid on time, your husband has your undivided attention every evening - oh and the smoking hot bedroom antics . . .  can't forget those.  Of course, you grow your own herbs, have a weed-free garden, have read the latest bestsellers, volunteer your time, and home-school your kids.
Does this describe your life?  If it does, God Bless You and please come over.  If, like me, you feel you have failed your family frequently because the laundry wasn't folded or put away, your family ate leftovers in front of the tv, your dining room table is covered with mail, homework, newpapers, and dirty coffee cup or two then all I can say is THANK GOD I'M NOT ALONE!
I say we start a new revolution - the Good Enough movement.  My house is safe and warm. My family has food to eat and most days they are getting a home cooked dinner.  I have held my job for 20 years and have earned the respect of the people that really matter to me.  I have two grown children and a teenager that are loving, loyal, honest and productive.  My baseboards may be dusty, but my family has traditions that they want to continue with year after year.  We have memories of laughter and love.  So Is It Good Enough?  Today I dare to say - YES.

Wow! I don't even have a job outside the home and I am not doing as well as you! I may have to start the movement, "Nearly Good Enough."

I raised 5 children, so any ideas I ever had of an immaculate home were not reality. Mine was the house where all the kids brought their friends. It was noisy, and cluttered and happy. As they got old enough we expected them to pitch in and help it was their home too. So long as it was reasonably clean and you could get around safely that was fine. I would much prefer that to a pristine, sterile, place where no one is really comfortable. BTW, who knows how perfect the homes of the pinners really are, LOL!

The only things you need to know are the last six lines you wrote.

I agree in a Good Enough lifestyle... I try to keep my house clean and my laundry done but that doesn't always happen. Especially since I have 2 kids under the age of 2. From being my daughter's food source, potty training my son and making sure my husband has a lunch to take to work, time has just slipped away. One day I might get a head but for now I will stick with Good Enough.

You said it all in the end of your blog! That's all that really matters and that is what your kids remember when they've grown and gone. Their friends remember how your house had the fun and laughter - not that your baseboards were well dusted. Your house sounds perfect to me!

Thank you everyone! I think we are all so darn hard on ourselves and we really need to cut ourselves some slack - 'cause no one else is going to! BigShotsMom - being the house the other kids came to - I love that, and my house is that way too. Parents trust me with their kids, the kids like to hang out here, and my husband and I love having the kids hang out. I think Good Enough is Great!

Lisa I laugh so hard because I'm a single female in her 40's and I can barely accomplish any ONE of the things you listed!!! My sister has 4 kids (last two were twins...and a surprise!) and I don't know how she does it all. When women tell me "I'm just a housewife" I say "oh, so you have, like, FIVE jobs then....". Anyway thanks for the smile. Good enough works quite well in my life, too. :)

About Me
I am 49, married, have 3 children and 1 grandchild! My kids are 28, 27 and 13. My grandson is 6. I am a social worker for the state of Missouri and work with foster children.
My favorite things to cook
I love discovering 'quick and easy' recipes that I can pass along to those I work with. I like exerimenting with my slow cooker and getting creative with new side dishes. I use my NuWave oven ALL the time love it! Today I roasted 2 whole chickens and grilled a whole bag of frozen chicken breasts - lots of possibilities for this weeks meals!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grown childen and I love to cook together - chicken fettuccini alfredo is a favorite of my oldest sons, with our own version of alfredo sauce. My 13 year old son is really learning the fun of experimenting when cooking and has made his dad and I several delicious meals. My daughter is a vegeterian, so creating new dishes and flavors is our favorite time. And of course entering recipes into the contests at the state fair.
My cooking triumphs
My husband and I have entered recipes for 4 years at the state fair. We find we do best with the recipes that we completely make from scratch - and literally throw together hoping it turns out!! ha We have won 5 prizes.
My cooking tragedies
Gravy - a can not make good gravy no matter what I try! It really is tragic.
