I'm an author, wife and mother of three girls. I do freelance work from home but spend most of my time keeping up with the kids. I love writing, cooking, visiting with family and friends and shopping. I even love grocery shopping! Catch up with me on my blog: gennymonchamp.blogspot.com
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are foods that the whole family will enjoy. I also love dragging the kids in the kitchen to help. I make a lot of chicken dishes and quick dinners on sports nights. Some of our family favorites are homemade pizza, Mama's fried chicken, tacos and anything we can marinade and throw on the grill.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year we make traditonal Scottish shortbread for Christmas. The recipe was brought over from Scotland by my great-great-grandmother McGarva over 100 years ago. It absolutely melts in your mouth and receives raves from everyone who tries it. I could share the secret recipe with you, but then I'd have to kill you.
My cooking triumphs
The first dish I cooked for my husband when we were dating was lemon chicken picata over rice. I was so worried it wouldn't turn out right that I ordered a pizza and stashed it in the fridge just in case. The chicken was a bit salty but still edible and my roomates and I got to share the entire pizza for breakfast the next morning.
My cooking tragedies
When I was in high school, my grandma brought a chicken dinner over one night. My Mom called to say she was running late from work and asked me to stick the chicken into the oven. I carefully read the directions my grandma had written on the sticky note and placed the pan of chicken into the oven. The only problem was, she hadn't included instructions to remove the plastic wrap that covered the dish! When my mom came home and smelled the melting plastic, she pulled the dish out of the oven and inside were 5 chicken breasts perfectly coated in Saran Wrap. To this day, I still get teased about my special chicken! Come over some time, I'll whip it up for you.
