While trickling along to my grandmother’s house for a nice little visit, I saw, some eyes lurking around me….it made me nervous and it made me very cautious. Then out of the corner of my eye, I see a figure then hear, “Why little girl, what have you here, I smell something sinful.” As I turned to see, it was a huge furry figure with red beady eyes and heaving heavily. I reply, “why nothing really, just some special treats for my grandmother.”
He tells me, ”I have a sweet tooth, can I take a look at what’s in your basket?”
“Not until I see whom I’m talking to, you are a stranger and I can’t see you very well.” I stated.

“Why certainly my dear, as you wish.”
He came closer into view and it was largest fury beast I’d seen before, he was slow moving and grunted as he stepped forward. He looked like a wolf, but larger. I said, “oh my what difficulties your having.”

“Yes, it’s my weakness, I’m a lover of sweet treats and must have them when I smell them. It’s taken a toll on my body and I lack the ability to say no.”

“Well, it doesn’t have to be that way….you could have your sweets and eat them too, if you changed a few things.”

“How…how is that possible?” he asked and replied, ”Share the LOVE of all things SWEET.

“I shall.” As I reached into my basket, I pulled out that blessed yellow bag and handed it to him. With the look of surprise on his face he asked, “What is this?”

“It is SPLENDA® Sweetener .” I said, “I use it in place of regular sugar when I can. It’s quite wonderful actually. I’ve been using it for many years. I’ve had a problem with my weight and diabetic issues, I needed to find something that would allow me to eat what I loved, without having the issues.”

“And this helped you? How do I use it?” he asked with the look on his face that I could see he was curious.

“Easy” I said. “Take out the amount of sugar you were going to use in a recipe and use the same equal amount of SPLENDA® Sweetener in it’s place.”

“It’s that easy?”
“Yes, it’s that easy.” I said, with a smile.

“Hmmm, I’d like to try something if I may, before I commit myself to a change, I don’t do changes very well.” he said.

“Ohh, I completely understand, I can show you what I brought with me for my Grandmother. I don’t think she’ll mind to much, if we had a little treat now.” So I pulled out a small portion of
Baked Apple Turnovers w/SPLENDA(R) Sweetener
“Wow, those look good.” He said. “Hmmm, these are really good.”

“Yes, thank you, the recipe was totally simple. I use it in a few different manners to achieve what I need.” I said politely.

“Oh?! a few different manners, can you explain?”

“Why yes, I have baked with it, made syrups & sauces with it, cooked on the stove top with it, I’ve used it making jams & jellies. I’ve mixed it with cinnamon and used it as sugar and cinnamon on top of buttered toast. Boy is that good. SPLENDA® Sweetener has a selection of different types of sweeteners. From blends with fiber, to brown sugar blends, in little packets for on the go’s for sweetening drinks and flavoring your coffees.”

“Ohh!! You can flavor your drinks with it too?” he asked with excitement. “I love Vanilla Flavored Coffee!”

“Oh yes, you can use making drinks too. Let’s see….I have a pairing that was delightful. Here….” As I showed him the Autumn Apple Spice Cake Recipe/SPLENDA® I paired with Christmas Coffee from Allrecipes (which is my favorite website!)

“Oh, that looks scrumptious, may I…I mean have a sip of the coffee, please?”

“Yes, please do.”

“Mm mm, I really like that. I had no idea about stuff like this. Can there a place I can look and read? I know I’ve detained you with you travels to your Grandmother’s House. But I’m interested in seeing what’s out there.” As he told. ”I’m guess I’m thankful I didn’t scare you off.”

“Well you were a bit scary at first, but I don’t mind helping you along the way. You can seek out what your looking for and information about their products at http://www.splenda.com/ There they have a listing about their company, the products they offer, wonderful recipes and information about living healthier. I have learned a lot there as well.”

“I thank you, what is your name? I’m Boris. And, I don’t think anyone has ever asked me my name before….” He said with a sigh.

“I’m Melissa, it’s been nice to have met you.” As I politely replied. “I know I must head over to see my Grandmother, but I’ll leave you with the package of sweetener as a gift.”

“That’s very gracious of you Melissa, thank you soo much.”

“Your quite welcome. I received some products from SPLENDA® Sweetener , to review their line and let them know, how I like it. And I like it quite fine, I use their products almost daily. It’s quite wonderful. And well I must be going. I hope to see you again sometime, just next time, try not to frighten me.”

“Well, I do look a bit scary. But if I see you again, I hope to call on you sometime and tell you how I’m doing.”

“Yes, that would be wonderful.” As I smiled and proceeded down the path on my travels. And then I realized he wasn’t so scary after all.
I made my way down to Grandmother’s house and had a wonderful visit as we shared in my treats. A few months went by and many trips down this path to Grandmother’s house, I wondered how Boris was doing. Winter came and Spring was upon me, when I was wondering down that path again to her house. When I felt a little trickle of unsteadiness on the back of my neck. I stopped in place and I heard. “Hi stranger!” I turned around and it was a furry beast standing behind me, as my heart raced, he smiled. I realized this slimmer furry beast was Boris.

“WOW, look at you, I hardly recognized you!” As I was in awww over this new improved beast before me. “You look amazing since the last time I saw you.”

“Yes, thanks to you, I wanted to thank you for our last visit, your insight and giving me that package of sweetener. I visited that site and then started researching how to use it. I was able to take that promise for myself and change some of my habits. And I was glad I ran into you today, I was hoping I’d see you. I made something for you and maybe you could take it to your grandmother’s house as a treat. If you don’t mind.”

“That is extremely sweet of you,” as I smiled at Boris. “Thank you for think of me. I think we would quite like that.”

“I too, paired my treat for you with a drink. I hope you like it.” As he reached over to a bush where he’d hidden the treats and pulled out a Cheesecake and drink. “This is a Scary Sweet Pumpkin Cheesecake and a Russian Tea Drink, I made from that website you told me about Allrecipes. Thank you for all the info from before.”

“Oh what a beautiful job you did. Again thank you. Let me taste a sliver if I can.” I asked.

As he handed me both the cheesecake and the drink, I sampled both. And they were both delicious. “Thank you, the cheesecake is really quite nice, I’d not made that one before, I think I’ll have to now. And the drink was so nice and inviting.”

“I hoped you would Melissa,” he stated. I know I don’t have many friends and it’s hard when you look like me, to have someone who will sit and converse as you have. I appreciate that. I must be on my way. Again, many thanks for you sharing your SPLENDA® Sweetener with me. It sure did open my eyes.”

“And you are quite welcome, any time Boris!” As swift as I said it, he smiled…turned and out of sight he went. Now having extra treats for Grandmother and me, was a pleasant surprise. What an impact making friends with a beast, that really wasn’t a beast at all.
The END!
I participated in a campaign on behalf of SPLENDA® Sweetener. I received a sample to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.

About Me
I'm an active mom of 4 and married the love of my life. I'm a full~time certified care giver, part~time food blogger @ http://the7upexperience.com , avid & obsessed novice photographer. I love allrecipes and pretty much an addict. I'm also a new member to Banana Belt Photography Club that's local to my community, and an Allrecipes Allstar Brand Ambassador. And have stamped allrecipes on me for life. The site has opened up my eyes to so much more then just recipes. I'm proud to be a member of this site and my love, passion & learning other recipes from other valued members has really broaden my horizens.
My favorite things to cook
Asian, Mexican, Multi-cultured foods, Low-fat, Low-sugar, Stews, casseroles, slow cooker meals and baking......Everything!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Funny but true: Cooking traditions men sit in the recliner and women in the kitchen...lol My family is always in the kitchen. My sister and her family, my parents and my family celebrate Christmas in January. Due to distance and work related jobs. Every year we plan what we are having ahead of time. Our tradition is usually food we've had abroad growing up overseas. Normally with Asia influences. It's always a special treat when we normally don't make the dishes often throughout the year.
My cooking triumphs
Unknown to me when I came up with a chicken and dumpling recipe of my own, my father was floored & delighted and told me it tasted just like his mother's.......My mom dropped her jaw because it was better then her's. It's a staple with my husband and kids.
My cooking tragedies
I had found a recipe for a Pretzel Pie(like Pecan Pie), thought it looked good and I didn't follow the recipe when it said unsalted pretzels. I just grabbed the normal stuff with the salt on it, made the pie, and my dad and husband were painting with thrist. And making weird pickle sour expressions, when I realized the pie was over salted. Oopppss! I never made it again.
