Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: May 26, 2007
I don't understand the 5-star reviews most users gave this cookie; they are not that good at all! The amount of sugar makes them sweet enough, but they really lack flavor! I didn't even enjoy eating the dough, and that's pretty much unheard of for me. The only flavor is from the chocolate chips...I doubt I'd make this cookie again, but if I did, I'd try something other than just cocoa powder. On top of that, I couldn't get the cooking time right...8 minutes they definitely were not done, 10 and they appeared done but wouldn't come off the cookie sheet without crumbling, 12 and they got a bit burnt. Of course, they are edible, but I think I'd be embarrassed to put them out saying I made them. Very attractive cookie, though.

Easy Pancakes

Reviewed: May 3, 2007
This is my basic everyday pancake recipe, and it's pretty good. A lot of times I'll make variations, like using 1/2 cup whole wheat flour and 1/2 cup regular flour, but I've found it works the best if you follow the recipe exactly (with a touch of vanilla, of course).

Scones

Reviewed: May 3, 2007
These scones tasted alright, but there's absolutely no possible way you can knead them like how the recipe suggests! The dough is much too sticky for that, and when I added all of the three cups of flour to mine, the mixture got almost rubber-like and even more impossible to work with. I ended up dropping them on cookie sheets (which wasn't easy, either) with blueberries in them. Many people mistook them for chocolate chip cookies by their appearance. This was my first and last time trying to make scones.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: May 3, 2007
This brownie recipe was perfect. I skipped on the icing; they didn't need it at all. The only addition I made was to stir in a few chocolate chips at the end--delicious.

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: May 3, 2007
This cake recipe is simply mediocre...I made the cake one night, following the yellow cake recipe exactly, and it turned out just okay. The edges were crisp while the center was barely done, and the taste was nothing amazing, but it was edible. The next day I decided to try again, this time using 1 tablespoon of vanilla and a lot of almond extract for flavoring, and a little more sugar...the almond fixed the flavor problem, but it still did not cook well in the middle. Overall, this cake will do if you're in a pinch--you're definitely going to want to ice it or serve with some fruit or something for extra flavor.
