Banana Muffins I

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
These were really good! I made the recipe exactly as written (but with fat free sour cream instead of plain), and they turned out very tasty. Perfect amounts, perfect temperature, even perfect baking time. My husband made a face when he saw me preparing them, "You're putting sour cream in the banana bread?," but when he tasted them he was very pleased. I'm always trying different banana bread/muffin recipes (some are too sweet or are too unhealthy written as-is), and this one is a keeper. They would also be good with a little cinnamon and/or nutmeg added, but it's not a requirement. Thanks, Tahoegirl!

Peanut Butter Noodles

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2008
This was fantastic! It tastes a lot like Thai restaurant quality (and my husband loved it, too). I didn't have fresh ginger so I used 2 tsp dried ginger, put in crushed red chili peppers for the hot chile paste, and omitted the crushed peanuts. It had just the right amount of spiciness. I let it simmer a bit too long so it wasn't very liquidy. The next time I won't simmer it quite as long, but it still tasted delicious! I served it along with chicken satay from this website and neither lasted long at all. Thanks for the post - I'll be making this many times in the future!

Chicken Satay

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2008
This was fantastic! I baked the chicken rather than grill it. Cut the chicken into strips, marinated the chicken for 3 1/2 hours and then baked it at 180 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes. I served it with peanut butter noodles from this website. My husband and I gobbled it up. Very tasty and will definitely make again!

Baingan Bharta (Eggplant Curry)

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
This was much better than I was expecting (seems that eggplant curries are almost always too mushy for my taste)! I didn't have garlic ginger paste so I used garlic salt and ginger powder instead. I added a cup of peas with the eggplant. I also added more jalapeno pepper slices (minced) and a lot more spices since it seemed too bland per the recipe for an Indian curry. It turned out good, although something is still missing from traditional Indian foods. Very tasty, and I'll definitely make again. Thanks for the recipe!

Aloo Phujia

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
This is a good recipe, but it there's something missing from authentic Indian food (the stuff in India, not Americanized). It was a little dry, even with all that oil. Cube the potatoes small and the same size so they cook in equal amount of time, definitely add more spices (too bland otherwise). I've made it twice and have made it once with fresh tomatoes per the recipe and once with a can of diced tomatoes with the juice to give it more sauce (per a reviewer's suggestion). It's pretty good both ways. This is a tasty recipe, even if it's not authentic. I'll make it in the future. Thanks for posting it!

Moong Dal

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
This is a good basic dal, but it doesn't taste the same as what I've had in India. I didn't have Asafoetida so I omitted that. It wasn't spicy enough so next time I'll add more spice and jalapeno peppers. It was good so I'll make it again and again (I love Indian food), just trying different ways to get the authentic flavor. Thanks for posting the recipe, though!

Tomato and Garlic Pasta

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
I loved it, my husband thought it was pretty good (he said it was missing something). I added some crushed red pepper flakes because we like it spicy. We used linguine pasta (it's what we had) and fresh tomatoes (I'm sure it's much better than canned tomatoes this way). Mmmmm! Delicious and tastes, to me, like restaurant pasta. I'll definitely make this again. Thanks for the recipe!

Cheeseburger Soup I

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
This is amazing! I would make it once a week if it wasn't a heart attack in a bowl. It tastes so good and is a wonderful comfort soup on those cold days. A few changes I made, based on other reviews and availabilities (I'm overseas): I omit the carrots and celery (I'm sure it would be good with it, but I just don't see it in my cheeseburger soup), add jalapeno peppers (minced), shredded cheese (I've tried it with cheddar and gouda since cheddar is hard to come by here - both are terrific) and omit the sour cream (trying to make it a little healthier). It is fantastic and I'll be making it again and again. It's usually gone within a day (there is only my husband and me)...my husband will even have it for breakfast! Thanks for the recipe!

Roasted Green Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
Delicious! I used balsamic vinaigrette rather than red wine vinegar since that's what I had. I'll definitely make this again. I love roasted veggies!

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
This was very tasty. I added jalapeno peppers since I couldn't get the diced tomatoes with green chiles (only plain). It needed a bit more spice (we like a kick) so a bit more chile powder was added. Will make again.

Traditional Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
Delicious! The key is to warm the milk and the butter. I added just a bit more butter, but it didn't really need it. I'll definitely make again. Thanks for the recipe!

Potatoes Au Gratin with Fennel and Bacon

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
This was very good. I used pancetta instead of bacon, reduced-fat milk instead of whole, and dried basil (didn't have fresh). It needed a bit longer to cook the potatoes (and I thought I sliced them thin enough), but it was worth the wait. A good left-over side dish. Thanks for the recipe.

Extra Easy Hummus

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
Really good recipe with some alterations. I omit the oil (doesn't need it), add paprika, lemon juice (2 tbsp), another garlic clove, and crushed red-pepper flakes. Rather than use the reserved garbanzo bean juice, I add a bit of water. Mash it with a fork and voila, wonderful! I serve it with raw veggies, chapati or pita bread (both from this website), crackers, the list is endless. We'll be making this rather than the buying it in the store.

Easy Hummus

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
Wonderful and easy. I won't be buying the store-bought again. I do add more cumin (about 2-3 tsp), a little salt, paprika, and red-chili pepper flakes (we like the spicy taste). I mash it all with a fork, and rather than use the reserved juice from the garbanzo bean can, I just add a bit of water. Tastes WONDERFUL! Good with raw veggies, in a wrap, pita bread or chapati bread (both from this website), or on crackers. Great recipe. Thanks ELOVINGS!

Pizza Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
A delicious, hearty, wonderful comfort food! I used pasta sauce instead of pizza sauce (can't find it where I'm at), sprinkled some herbs de provence on the top, rigatoni noodles rather than egg noodles, and a bit more cheese. SO GOOD! I'll be making many times since my husband has requested it twice in the past 2 weeks. It doesn't last long in our house! Thanks for the recipe!

Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
This recipe was tasty and easy to make. I used balsamic vinaigrette instead of raspberry, regular mustard, and added some honey to setback the tangy 'kick' that makes my mouth water just thinking about. Will make again. Thanks!

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
We LOVE this recipe! We used to be store-bought only dressing people, but after this recipe never again! I used balsamic vinaigrette instead of red wine vinegar, didn't add onion powder (didn't have any the first time I made it and it's delicious without it), and used regular mustard. It's so easy to make and tastes delicious. This is our main salad dressing from now on. Thanks so much for the recipe!
