Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2007
I just made this recipe for Easter Breakfast. It was great! My company asked for the recipe. I wouldn't change a thing.

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2007
Love this recipe! I first made it for my husband and myself, but it was so good I made it again for company... the best part about it is it's EASY. Just be sure to take the advice of others and reserve some of the Honey Mustard sauce for dipping at the table. I just put it in a little pitcher... People loved it. Thanks, Connie, for sharing.

Lorraine's Club Sandwich

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2007
I happen to like Club Sandwiches. I forget about them as an easy, tasty meal... thanks for the reminder! Not everyone is a super-chef... and not all of the more difficult recipes are as good as a well made Club Sandwich!

Balsamic Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2008
I've made this recipe several times. Love it! The only time it wasn't great was when I roasted it longer than the recommended 1 hour. Still it was good... but stick to the 1 hour cook time. Even better when my husband grills it!

Orange Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2009
I baked this cake again this year for my husband's birthday. This year I frosted it with chocolate frosting... the flavors blended beautifully! He loved it... * 2009 Review I made this cake for my husband's BD. I used to buy an orange cake mix, but none of the markets, in which I shop, carries it anymore. This recipe is a Godsend. I followed other suggestions and used vanilla pudding and I substituted orange extract for the lemon in the recipe. But I have a suggestion on applying the glaze: I used a bundt pan to bake my cake. After turning out the cake and allowing it to cool, I made the glaze and poured it into the empty bundt pan (I washed it and sprayed lightly with Pam). Then I put the cake back in, pushing it down until the glaze rose up the sides. In a couple minutes all the glaze was evenly absorbed and I turned the cake back out onto a plate. There wasn't a drop of glaze left in the pan. Worked perfectly. Try it!

Cabbage Roll Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2010
This recipe does make a lot! About 2 9x13 pans of it! But it's very good. I took the advice of a few others and added Italian seasoning, garlic, a can of diced tomatoes 2 T. brown sugar, extra salt, Worcestershire sauce and added my own touch.... some shredded cheese. I love anything with cheese in it. My husband and sister-in-law had seconds... and I had so much left I sent an 8x8 casserole of it home with her and gave another casserole of it to my Mom. My husband and I are eating the leftovers again tonight! Nice if you want a night of no-cooking!

Hot Water Pie Crust I

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2011
Just a tip... My Mom always rolled out her pie crust (almost exactly this recipe) between two sheet of waxed paper. Just sprinkle a little water on a large breadboard and lay a sheet of waxed paper over it... the water keeps it from moving and buckling. Roll the dough into a ball and place in the middle of the sheet, placing another sheet on top. Flatten a little with your hand and then use your rolling pin to roll out to desired size. Peel off top sheet and lift lower sheet with dough and turn over onto pie plate, forming to fit. Peel off waxed paper... you may want to do this in sheets. Just don't use too much water when you sprinkle your board.

Delicious Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
I made these yesterday using Boysenberry Jam that I had on hand. They are wonderful. I read that some people had trouble getting them out of the pan. I simply sprayed my glass 9"x13" pan with Canola spray and then when they came out of the oven I immediately loosened the sides with a plastic egg turner/spatula. When they cooled and I cut them, they came out easily. A bit crumbly on top, but not overly so... just eat with a plate underneath to catch the crumbs... Wonderful recipe.

Dilly Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2011
I don't know what I did wrong, but this didn't work out to be as tasty as other found it. I'm sure it was me, though, so I'm not giving it a bad rating.

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2011
I think someone may have mentioned this already, but here goes... I was in a hurry and didn't fully read the recipe. I put all the herbs/spices into the batter instead of the butter. Oops... but it turned out great that way! I put melted butter with a brush on the table and let people brush butter on top of their biscuit when they were ready to eat it. Worked very well. I just ate one this morning as a snack... even reheated for 10 sec. in the microwave, and with no butter added, it was very good. They are really close, if not exactly like, the biscuits at Red Lobster. So easy and tasty! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew IV

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2011
Great Stew. Someone had suggested placing a sprig of Rosemary on top during cooking ... I have a Rosemary bush, so added 3 long sprigs. I thought it was a little too much Rosemary flavor, but my Husband and his Sister loved it that way!

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

This is exceptionally good on a cold winter's night. Only changes I make: diced tomatoes rather than whole... 32 oz. chicken broth (no water)... add a can of black beans... and top with sour cream and shredded cheese.

I made 5 of these and gave as gifts at Christmas ... on pretty Christmas plates. Just wrapped in cellophane and added a big bow. People loved them... especially the taste! Very elegant and festive.

Made these for Father's Day breakfast... the recipe is a keeper. Mom must have made these when I was a kid as the great flavor was familiar and reminded me of Friday night dinners on those meatless Fridays! Outstanding recipe Janet.. thanks for sharing.

Boiling Water Pastry

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2012
I got this recipe from my Mom, who always made it when I was growing up. It never fails me... and is the flakiest crust I've made. I don't use cake flour... just ordinary flour. And I don't refrigerate it before rolling it out. I do roll out between two sheets of waxed paper (lightly sprinkle water on cutting board before putting down the first sheet of paper to keep it from moving while you're rolling) and then just peel off the top sheet and lift the bottom sheet with crust on it & invert to place over pie plate... then carefully peel off that sheet as you fit it to plate.. Works every time for me.
