Bacon for the Family or a Crowd

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2008
This is an awesome way to cook bacon. Comes out perfect! I use parchment paper to line my baking sheet so it doesnt stick like it sometimes does w/ tinfoil. As others have stated, make sure you use a tray w/ sides so the grease doesnt drip off.

Southern Moon Pies

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
mmmmm, I made these for a summer barbeque and they were a huge hit. I followed the recipe exactly. Although I agree with other reviewers that the filling did taste a bit buttery. Next time I may use 3/4 of a stick instead of a whole stick (1/2 cup). Yum!

Acorn Squash Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
Oh WOW!!!! This was possibly some of the best soup I've had! My friend made some and gave me a bowl to taste. I pulled up the recipe and bought the ingredients to make more then next day! I forgot the bacon for the garnish, it was still delicious without the bacon.

Oatmeal Banana Cupcakes

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2009
Yum! These were a great way to use smushy bananas! I made a few changes... used 2 packs of maple/brown sugar flavored instant oatmeal instead of regular oatmeal. Since the packets were sweetened, I skipped the 3/4 cup honey alltogether & dropped down the salt to only 1/2 tsp.I added a bit of extra banana to make up for loss of moisture by skipping honey. Also added 1 tsp vanilla. Even my 4 yr old who "hates" bananas gobbled these up!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2009
Yum! My family loooved this recipe! I only used 1 can biscuits. Used 1/2 can of chicken stock instead of water. Also added carrots and frozen peas. I'll be making this many times again!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2009
yum, these were good! I followed other reviewers' suggestions and added an extra egg, 1/2 cup sour cream and upped the sugar from 1/2 to 3/4 cup. I also added extra vanilla (2 tsp total) and omitted the chocolate chips. (I know, I know... WHAT was I thinking???) I was trying to make them a bit healthier by leaving the chips out. Actually, they were still really good, even without the mini-chips. I'll make this again! Yum!

Peach Cobbler V

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2009
Yum! My family loved this! I used 4 fresh peaches instead of canned and also added in a handful of fresh blackberries from my neighbor's yard. I also reduced the amt of butter. instead of 1 stick (8 TBSP) I only used 6 TBSP. This will be the cobbler recipe I use from now on!

Caramel Frosting IV

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
This was a bit thinner than I had hoped for but it tasted great! My husband loves those maple "sparkle" candies and he thought this frosting tasted just like them. If I had sprinkled some chopped toasted pecans on top, it would have been JUST like those candies. I may try that next time!

Chimichurri Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
YUM!!! I've never tried a sauce like this before. Made it w/ grilled flank steak for a casual dinner w/ neighbors. It was a total hit. Everyone loved it and kept adding more sauce to their plates. The leftover sauce was great the next day over grilled chicken. This is a permanent addition to my recipe book!

Mint Juleps

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
Aaaaah! Perfect! I've made this recipe and I've also made Basil Juleps which were a HUGE hit w/ our mint julep crowd. I just substituted fresh basil (1 cup) for mint and followed the recipe. Yum! Perfect to cool off on a hot day down by the "rivah"!

Tres Leches Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
Yum! I've made this a few times for people who know and love authentic tres leches and it always gets rave reviews. I do skip the cherries though. Also, save and refridgerate the leftover milk mixture. Mix in an egg & a splash of vanilla the next morning and it makes an AWESOME soak for french toast! :)

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2011
I dont even like cream cheese frosting and this was probably the best frosting of any type that I've ever had!!!! YUM!!! I doubled the conf. sugar and beat the mixture for approx 5 minutes. (had to scrape the mixer blades as the frosting got thick). Everyone here loved it and thought it was a marshmallow frosting. This is now my official go-to vanilla frosting!

Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2011
great cookies! I skipped the filling based on reviews and used Cream Cheese frosting II from this site instead. I doubled the amt of confectioners sugar in the cream cheese frosting and it transformed into a delicious marshmellowy light, fluffy creme. Perfect whoopie pie filling. Not cream cheese tangy at all!

Favorite Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2012
I've been using this recipe for a few years and its a family favorite! I only use 1 stalk worth of rhubarb so the flavor isnt too overpowering. I'll still be making this pie 20 yrs from now, it's totally a keeper. Try it!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2013
just made a batch for my sons and their buddies who are all home from school on a snow day and piled up in my house. All 4 dozen cookies were gobbled up & are gone! I managed to eat a few before the feeding frenzy, they're delish! Maybe it's the baking soda and hot water combo but something about this recipe makes it extra YUMMY!!!!
