About this Cook
I love food plus I like cooking for other people and I love trying new things - plus I do like to make thing a bit healthier - i.e. less fat, less sodium, or less carbs - but most important, it must taste good, so I am auditing some culinary classes at the local community college.
My favorite things to cook
Something new that turns out to be so good that other people end up asking for the recipe. I love my slow cookers (have 6, and absolutly love the new liners for them) easy clean up is right up at the top of my list.
My favorite family cooking traditions
What works and foods that people remember and want to have again. Easy is always good.
My cooking triumphs
My pineapple upside down cake and the spagetti sauce for our family reunion. I was was pretty poor, but one of the smartest thing I ever did was to make desserts for each of the departments I had contact with at my job - I just used mixes and doctored them some and took in cakes - boy, even tho they had always been nice, you can not believe how much nicer they were after I said thank you. It is a lesson I have never forgotten - I started it at Christmas time, but have found out it is even nicer when there is no special reason (just to say thank you, and random times are easy on the budget).
My cooking tragedies
I made a spinach soup for a family Thanksgiving dinner, that turned out so nasty looking (but it did taste good) that no one wanted to try it - can't say that I blame them and a cake I baked for my son's co-workers - the cherries ended up having a pit ( I always check now) and my son's boss broke a tooth.

Awesome Pasta Salad
I love this salad - though have my own version, I always make this at least one day before serving. I use both salami and pepperoni (get both in half inch slices from the deli, much easier to cube that way), along with cubed zucchini and yellow squash, two types of cheese (one smoked one sharp), but do not use peppers as my family is not a fan. I use both green and red onions, plus I use a combo of Kraft fat free Zesty Italian and Kraft Sun Dried Tomato dressings - they are lighter and zippier tasting. I use half the dressing, mix well,cover then refrigerate over night. I add the rest of the dressing the next day before serving. It makes a lot, but I send home leftovers with both my kids.

MVP Chili
I can only give this a 4 because while this is my basic go to chili recipe I do thinks a tiny bit different. I use 1 pkg hot and one pkg mild sausage, I saute 1 finely chopped carrot and 1 finely chopped stalk celery (figure I have to sneak in all the veggies I can), I used diced tomatoes, 1 can plain and 1 can with chilies, and always add a lot of fresh ground pepper. I bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer and let it go for up to 2 hours. If i have time, make a day ahead, because always better the second day.

Mini Ham And Cheese Rolls
Loved it, so easy to make (did do the whole pack at one time as suggested by many) used the Hawaiian rolls and they were a huge hit - I did not add the onion this time because of folks are allerigic and didn't use the seeds because those with false treet have a problem with them. This will become a go to, and will also try with both turkey and or beef.
